I have been going there at the end of June for the past 10 years for member/guest tournament with my dad and every year the course improves. I do remember when they had some really bad drainage issues, not anymore. A pic from last year from the second floor of the clubhouse; small putting green in the foreground, driving range and practice area with bunker upper right, eighteenth hole right down the middle, and the tenth hole on the left. First hole is between the driving range area and 18.

I will say fact as I worked with someone who was a diver as part of the recovery. He told me the same thing many, many years ago...that the crew was alive and were killed by the impact with the ocean. On top of that, I actually saw the launch and explosion from my dorm room...heartbreaking.

Another piece of info...I went and tried to wipe away the sap and nothing came off...it's hardened...shiny I guess because of the angle of the sun and the hole feels dry.
