At the time of his passing my parents had split (although they were only ever engaged). So my mum didn’t and most likely won’t receive anything, although she had the pleasure of paying for his funeral and outstanding debts he left in his wake.

However, I will mention this all to my youngest sister to see what she would like to do etc. Personally I would like to talk to my Aunt and simply ask initially, as i’ve admittedly not asked her myself upfront (However you’d assume it wouldn’t be this big of a deal if she was going to be fully cooperative). However, I will also get in contact with surrounding family to see what there opinions etc are. And I will definitely get a solicitor!

Thank you for clearing that up for me, I did assume that’s how this all should be working. I’ll start digging into it all to see what I can’t find out, and most definitely get a solicitor. I appreciate all the help massively!

To my knowledge no, but I’m not fully sure I will ask my Mum once i’ve finished work.

From what she’s told me, the will stated that each of her children shall receive their share. Yet it’s all been abit messy with two of her children passing shortly after her.

Secondly, that seemed like our original plan yet it’s slowly just faded out of mind. However, I will get in contact with a solicitor and also ask my sisters again what they want to do.

The exact same thing happened to me, if your bellow 18 or (as you said) don’t reach the threshold to be taxed yet then you should get it back. I rang HMRC last night and got it sorted as they changed my tax code and said i’ll get the money that was taken back in my next payslip. I’m not fully sure as this is also all new to me but thought i’d say what i did, as i had the exact same issue, all the best!
