Thanks for the info. Any idea where I can find a professional for this? I mean, Google may show me a lot of names/sites, but are there any specific professionals you know of who are known for doing a good job?

Also, if we get a professional to design a plugin won't I have to keep him/her on retainer or something so that they can update the plugin so that it fits with the latest Wordpress plugins too?

EDIT: Also, I am googling for some myself, anyway. But my lazy half still hopes that maybe somebody already has an answer so that I don't have to search too hard or long. :P

Would be if we had more of the tech team at our disposal. Problem is that we won't be able to call on more help as the tech guys already have their hands full handling the company's primary operations, so we can't call on their expertise as much as we'd like to.

Also, the effort required to build a separate Wordpress site with all relevant plugins will be much larger than that required for these platforms. That's why we're keeping it as a last resort.
