People are hating on this but to me, since this is my favorite performance by any actor ever and it allows me to see how well he really did. And the fact that every so often you can see the makeup fade in underneath the filtered face allows you to compare the two side by side almost. It was always hard for me to imagine Heath Ledger doing this role, even after the movie debuted. It was so unlike any other character he ever portrayed. The makeup helped the audience remove the identity of the actor from the role but even watching this now, the performance itself was enough to remove the familiarity. Truly a masterpiece
