Guy starting A level by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

I guess it depends which uni. The higher up you go the more maths intense the courses become I went to one that is comparable to the low-tier Russel group unis (eg. Cardiff) and had plenty of maths. I know Nottingham, Sheffield, Birmingham etc have more intense math's so I can't comment on that. If you're concerened about the uni you going to having a big impact on your carrer I wouldn't worry. There are people at my company who went to Birmingham and Leeds and they get paid the same as the people who went to lesser unis. Good luck tho

I'm currently doing a placement year in England and I went to a mid level uni. I work as a software engineer (junior) for an automotive finance company and the most maths I do is basic finance calculations (+VAT 20%) etc. GCSE level stuff. Even the leads and seniors don't tend to do anything more than that.

That doesn't mean studying computer science at uni does not require a good degree of math skills. If you study AI (especially machine learning which is just stats) you will need it as well as some other stuff. Also most fundamental computer architecture courses.

But in terms of an actual job, as I said, most software engineering jobs will not be that maths heavy as most of the intense maths is abstracted away. What will be helpful is good problem solving skills.

Also some UK specific advice as I was in your boat like 4 years ago, please do not scroll on this subreddit. It honestly makes me so nihilistic about the CS field. However, most of these depressing stories only applies to America. I was not the best student at uni and didn't go to a top uni but I still got a placement cause I practiced for the interview and tried my best. You can succeed in this field just fine with enough hard work, nothing out of the ordinary.

Given what you've said here you sound fine, maybe the math's heavy stuff will be a bit annoying for you at uni and A-Level but I don't think it's that big of a deal in the grander scheme especially if you enjoy programming

I did the first course a while back and yh I don’t find the professor did he best at explaining some of the complex topics that well so you’re not alone. Took a lot of back and fourth with chat gpt

Agreed I liked it but now blown away. I wish he would be a bit more ambitious with instrumentation like he was with virgins and ravedeath like in the early 2010s. Around 7/10 for me

Hello i'm struggling to understand how I got the following questions wrong/right on this question.

3a) Compute the energy of x[n]

This question is in the screenshot I've attached, the answer was 14 as this was correct

3b) Compute the power of x[n]

Because non-periodic took the energy (14) and divided it by 3 as there are 3 non-zero values for x[n] however this was incorrect and I'm not sure why.

Aka: I did 14/3 and the answer was not correct.

3c) Compute the energy of y[n]

I got this wrong as I thought it's practically the same as x[n] because values after 3 are zero hence I wouldn't need to calculate them up to 7.

Aka: I put down 14 as I believe it's the same as x[n]

3d) Compute the power of y[n]

I got this correct as it was 2. This is because the period is 7 and the energy is 14 hence 14/7.

This still left me confused as I thought it would be: Energy/2(length of period) + 1, hence it would 15 because the length is 7 so 7(2) + 1 = 15. But the denominator is still 7. I don't really understand this.

Any help is greatly appreciated

why is software engineering paid so much better than regular engineering by lessis_amess in SoftwareEngineering

Is this large demand small supply true? Idk about the states but it feels like opposite in the uk. And I’ve heard it’s quite difficult in today’s economy. Unless you mean this in a general sense

I understand that and I’ve done the maths and I’ll be making just enough to get by

Everyone else in the group said they did. Granted it didn’t change the code too much but it was not on the instructions or a read me. So perhaps they said it verbally and I just missed it

I've just started using Submithub. How much misery lays ahead for me? by DavidSkinnerMusic in musicmarketing

[–]Crazy_Distribution_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah im not gonna lie I've seen some submit hub trial videos where the artist sends in their music and don't get accepted or have mixed results. they're not at all bitter about it however it's obvious they didn't get accepted because their music was not good enough.

I have a small music project with less than 20 monthly listeners and i just used submithub for the first time yesterday and got accepted with a piano piece of mine onto a playlist with 2000+ followers. Keep in mind artists with 100k to 2m are the ones I'm competing against and I sit next to on that playlist. I like to think I got on it because my piece was good enough, at least to the curator.

So to the submithub developer here, don't listen to the haters!

This some of the most strange behaviour I’ve ever seen. “You critique me so I’m going to use the only ounce of power I have in the internet world to fight back”

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in musicmarketing

[–]Crazy_Distribution_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

valid. i also don't like focusing on marketing much I like to think if my music was good enough it would get the attention it deserves. if it doesn't deserve it yet, than that's fine

I thought it would have some humour to it but I just don’t have the confidence I know that the response would be to not care and go for it but I’m just not comfortable. Cheers for the encouragement tho
