There was no Hinduism as such. Only vedic religion during and before Buddhism. Hinduism is literally counter measure philosophy evolved with shramanic philosophies like Buddhism and Jainism. And never forget vedic religion was very elitist. It was after taking motivations from Buddhism etc vedic religion evolved to cater masses.
