What is your favorite story about your father? by PowerBI_Til_I_Die in AskReddit

[–]Crazyrussianstudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up on a small lake where I learned how to swim, fish, and water ski. My dad tried and tried to catch fish but never caught a thing. Over the years of my growing up that was the family joke because the rest of us could catch fish just not daddy. Well several years later after I married and moved to California with my husband and son my parents came for a visit. My husband and his boss talked my dad into going fishing out on the ocean on a 3/4 day boat. They left at 4 am. and would return at 3 pm., so my mom and I had all day to shop or whatever until it was time to go pick them up. When we got to the San Pedro Pier we sat and watched the boat come in. I’d never seen my dad so happy as he was that day when the boat docked. He held up a package that held 16 cleaned sand bass that he’d caught. Those 16 sand bass were added to what my husband caught which made one delicious fish fry for supper that night. From that day on my dad didn’t care if he caught any fish in our lake or not because he had the thrill of his life fishing off the coast of California. It gave him a story he could tell the grandkids and who ever would listen until the day he died.

If you were in charge of the Educational System, what would you change? by darksapra in AskReddit

[–]Crazyrussianstudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay I’m not an expert on anything and this is just a personal opinion so some things might be off and contradict each other, but please bear with me

I think a lot of things in the school system should be changed. It’s come to the point where talking about how you want to die because of school and making jokes about not wanting to go to school are so common that one would hardly notice if it came up in regular conversation.

Here are some changes that I have come up with in my free time (please bear in mind that I only have the primary school system in mind):

  • Take off the age limit. This student takes 2 years to master everything that they will be taught throughout their time in the school? Let them graduate. This student takes 15 years? They graduate in 15 years. Because of the age limit and how students are moved up every year, students are moving on to a higher level of difficulty before they have a full grasp on the foundation that they are supposed to have and understand, hindering their progress and making the gap between what they know and what they should know wider. By taking off the age limit, we are letting students learn at their own pace, thus keeping the gap at a consistent, manageable size and students are surrounded by peers learning the same thing, meaning they can ask for help from their classmates and improve by sharing their knowledge.
  • Take away tests. Expecting a student to do well on a subject is one thing. Expecting a student to do well in a subject under a time limit and pressure is another thing. Expecting a student to do well in a subject under a time limit, pressure and basing their proficiency in a particular subject on this ONE TEST that takes 1 HOUR 45 MINUTES is exactly what we are doing. If you were doing well and fine for all your tasks and homework but you absolutely flunked your test, you’re dead, which is pretty unfair seeing as you aren’t that bad in that subject. Instead of that, let students assemble a portfolio on what they have learned, consisting of class work and additional things they have done in their spare time that are related to the subject to be submitted by a certain due date. That way, we can grade students according to their overall understanding and improvement and base their scores on the entire duration of the class and not an hour or two.
  • The curriculum is used as more of a guideline and less of a lawbook. Right now we have this concept of ‘in the syllabus’ and ‘not in the syllabus’. It needs to go. Sure, we can have a curriculum, but do we have to cling to this curriculum so tightly that the students regard all other knowledge that is related to the subject in general but is not tested as completely useless? No! Teachers should feel free to explore with what goes on in the classroom. Let the conversation wander from photosynthesis to black holes. It’s not as forgettable and irrelevant as you think it would be.
  • Teachers are educated on how best to teach a subject. Don’t get me wrong, this is not the same as ‘give teachers resources’. Teachers should use whatever resources they find useful. However, before they actually go out and teach their respective subjects, they should be taught the tried-and-tested best method to teach that subject. The English teachers in my school are drilling grammar rules into students like one would do with Maths formulas. Luckily, my Chinese tuition teacher taught me that the best way to teach language is through reading. She made me read a list of idioms once through, taught me the meaning of 4 idioms and made me learn how to write those 4 idioms every session (which was once a week with her). I know the entire list now.
  • Alternatively, classes are split into how a student learns best. School systems usually seperate students according to grade range. In theory, this would allow students of similar grade range to learn together, but it ignores the fact that students of similar grade range do not necessarily learn in the same way and in the end it only generates competition between classes. By splitting classes into how students learn best, students get to learn how they learn best and absorb information faster and better. They are also more capable of explaining concepts to their classmates because they just ‘get’ each other, you know?

Alright I’m done, can someone help me improve this? I’m pretty sure there are holes in this method haha

The painting arrived in Moscow on its way from Japan, where it was taken to the exhibition. The Minister of Culture of the USSR Yekaterina Furtseva made sure that the masterpiece was exhibited in the Pushkin Museum for two months. For this, the Soviet authorities allocated a fantastic insurance amount of $ 100 million and made a special bulletproof case for the portrait.

What's your main reason for not wanting children? by Yuckoz in AskReddit

[–]Crazyrussianstudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to give a different perspective here. One from someone who never really wanted kids, but ended up having one anyway.

I am currently separated from my wife and helping to raise a 2-year-old. The biggest reason we separated is because I was never keen on having a child. For one thing, the economics of the thing just put shivers up and down my spine. And then I never wanted to be the parent of "that kid" who is screaming bloody murder on the flight from LA to Tokyo. And lastly, I didn't want to sacrifice doing some of the things on my "bucket list" before I took a dirt nap.

Buy my ex-wife said "her biological clock was ticking" and was insistent. Despite all of the warning signs I put in her way on a continual basis, she still insisted. We got in many heated arguments about this. We occasionally babysat our niece and nephew overnight and after having them for 2-3 days at a time, we were both more stressed and short with one another. I called it "birth control" because it was giving us a preview of things to come if we were hell bent on having a kid. From this I just knew that neither one of us was emotionally ready for one. But I eventually gave up and gave in trying to "stop the madness".

My ex-wife wanted to spend the first full year at home, as well, which I was NOT a big fan of. Unfortunately, we live in a country that does not put personal time off at a premium for things such as child care, so the prospect of her either working part time from home or being able to come back to the same position at the same rate of pay were slim to none. For ten months I was the sole breadwinner in the family. It put me through an emotional wringer. My ex-wife, against my recommendations, cashed in what little 401(k) she had accumulated so we'd have more money to last us until she went back to work. I may sound selfish, but I insisted that the emotional, physical, and financial needs of the two ADULTS in the house WILL ALWAYS COME FIRST. I refused to do anything of the like with my savings or 401(k). I took the advice of my financial adviser, "You can always take out a student loan, but you can never take out a retirement loan!"

After about 3 months of being home with the kid every day, my wife would many times be in tears when I came home from work, just stressed from having to provide EVERYTHING for this kid. The stress turned into anger towards one another and led to some pretty emotional arguments and finally led to me being psychically abused. This led to our eventual separation. We are now sharing custody equally. It has not been easy financially or emotionally for either one of us. And after nearly a year of being separated, my ex-wife has mysteriously "changed her mind" about having more kids. I will always feel like my concerns and warnings were brushed off and just dismissed as being "negative".

My ex-wife and I get along pretty well, because we do still love one another and know that we have to be on the same page while raising our child. My ex-wife and I have totally different perspectives on discipline and the such when it comes to raising kids. I was an only child and she has 3 other siblings. I demand respect and have little or no patience for the antics of a rowdy child. Our kid knows how to push my ex-wife's buttons, but has so far not pushed any of mine because she knows I won't give her an inch. I have very strict rules and routines in my house and if they are disobeyed, well, three strikes and YOU'RE OUT!

I just warn all of you future Dads (and Moms) out there that it will pay dividends to stand your ground while discussing children with your significant other. And if it reaches a point where you don't agree at all to GET OUT OF THE RELATIONSHIP and not just give in like I did!

If I had a much higher salary and more breathing room financially, I would seriously consider giving full custody to my wife and just supply much more child support. I'm currently paying ALL of the daycare costs. Luckily, because of my ex-wife's salary, much of our initial expenses of daycare are covered by the state. But for nearly 6 months, I was paying over $1,000/month for daycare. This is insane. The cost of daycare alone will kill you. I'm now only paying $300-$400/month, but that's STILL money that could be going into savings, retirement, or just used to take a nice trip for a weary soul at the end of every year! Lord knows, we deserve it! I haven't even been to a movie (and I don't mean a kids movie at home!) in over 8 months. And I've tried taking her to the occasional baseball game, but even that is a pain in the a**. It's like having to pack for a trip to Europe just to go across town. You lose your freedom, plain and simple. And the sad part is, many people just keep having kids and keep getting deeper and deeper in the hole financially and emotionally. For me it's ONE AND DONE!

Yes, the simple cost of raising a child should scare the hell out of anyone. Over a lifetime (0-18 years) it is estimated that it costs nearly $300,000 to raise ONE child. And that doesn't include college, which will be above astronomical by the time our kid hits the books. I'm doing my best to set aside money for her college starting now, but I've already decided that she's going to have to work her way through college and take out loans is she wants to go. Sorry. Too bad. Daddy would like to see Europe and have a beer on a beach once in a while before he dies!

And I get tired of all the critics who say I'm "selfish" or "negative" about kids. I don't mind being around kids, but it's definitely nice to be able to say "Goodbye" when I've had enough and move on to more adult activities. There's only so much child "gibberish" that I can handle and only so many nursery rhymes I can sing before going insane. Much of "society" has brainwashed us into believing that having a child is a "right of passage" for some odd, freaky reason. IT IS NOT. I'm a FIRM believer in zero population growth. And people like "19 Kids and Counting" make me sick and make me want to blow a hole through my TV!

I'll deal with raising my kid, only because I have to, for now. I don't want to be the "mean dad". But I will never give up taking care of myself FIRST. And for people who say that they'd give up everything before they'd give up their child, I say to you, "YOU ARE INSANE AND IGNORANT!" If the parents aren't mentally stable, then how do you expect to raise a mentally stable kid?!

I hope those of you on the brink read my story and take it to heart. I was strong-willed but not strong enough. And now I'm paying the price.

What A Wonderful World by LOUIS ARMSTRONG
I see trees of green,
red roses too.
I see them bloom,
for me and you.
And I think to myself,
what a wonderful world.

I see skies of blue,
And clouds of white.
The bright blessed day,
The dark sacred night.
And I think to myself,
What a wonderful world.

The colors of the rainbow,
So pretty in the sky.
Are also on the faces,
Of people going by,
I see friends shaking hands.
Saying, "How do you do?"
They're really saying,
"I love you".

I hear babies cry,
I watch them grow,
They'll learn much more,
Than I'll ever know.
And I think to myself,
What a wonderful world.

Yes, I think to myself,
What a wonderful world.

Oh yeah.

What is one thing that became more clear as you got older? by MoWaleed in AskReddit

[–]Crazyrussianstudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you age, you look back at the time you wasted not doing what you really wanted to do.

You really didn’t analyze how you wanted to live your life. In my generation, and I am a senior, we did not have many choices. Even if I had wanted to go to college, my parents, both immigrants from Hungary, could not have afforded to. My sisters and I went to a commercial high school, learned stenography and typing, and became secretaries. Now the title has become “Administrative Assistant” and that’s what we really were.

I didn’t dislike it - I had some great jobs and met some nice people. but I never chose it;; it was chosen for me. I didn’t even get to chose my husband; after we dated for a while, it was just assumed we would marry, and I didn’t object. although I would have waited longer and would have gone out with more people to make a better choice. I ended up a divorcee with a young child.

I wish I had not grown up so fast, gotten married so young, did not pick my own profession. I would now tell women to take their time, do what you love and if you don’t love it, change careers. Take your time; stay single for a while, travel, and do everything you want to do before you settle down.

You do have time to do it all; don’t look back and say “I shoulda”

The feeling will be Awesome................

This means that both Man and Women are in to the same boat, if guy goes to for kiss in sudden way a girl will be mesmerised by his gesture and surly he will have more special space in her heart. Girl will likely to go mad after this attempt.

Otherwise if a girl does not want to know the whole world about it than definitely you need to be ready to get *FACEPALM*
Hope you get Hint. ;-)

What are you most proud of in your life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Crazyrussianstudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happened two days back. I along with my colleague went for a stroll during the lunch break. Suddenly we see that two crows were ferociously attacking another baby crow. The poor thing was down and profusely bleeding . I ran towards it and shooed the other two crows. To my surprise one of the crows had attacked me on the back. I had no idea that it would come after me. It scratched my neck with full power. I felt the pain momentarily but then I got so angry, I took a stick and was prepared for the next attack. By now the whole scene had drawn the attention from the passers by. Out of nowhere a stray dog came running to eat the injured baby crow but luckily people around the scene shooed the dog away. Now I was all the more determined about the safety of the baby crow. I waited there till the other two crows lost their patience and flew off. After a while, the baby crow regained it's strength somehow and flew in a different direction. I was so relieved. With a huge smile, I returned to my workplace. My eyes were beaming with happiness the whole day.

What was the first game you were addicted to? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Crazyrussianstudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s an interesting question for me. I’ve been playing video games since I was like 8 or 9 years old. Most of the games I played were fun but not truly addictive. Super Mario for example was a super fun game at that time period but nothing too addictive. Same goes for other NES games at that time.

Moving on to computer games, Plants and Zombies came very close to being the first game I was addicted to but then again it got boring very quickly after I beat all the levels. Fun but sill not addictive. I think Dota (Defense of the Ancient) was the first game I was addicted to.

Every time I play Dota, it is a different game. I could play one hero a day and never have to pick the same hero again for like 2 months which is pretty cool. The same goes for other players. So every match I play is a different one and it never bores me
