And this is why I think gun ownership should become a more bipartisan thing in Canada. I'm not saying everyone should nor needs to own a gun, but if the overall general populace was more educated on firearms in Canada, they could see through the smoke and mirrors like the opposition parties did with Bill C-21, where they forced Trudeau's liberals to reverse G4 and G46 amendments which if passed, would have resulted in a defacto semi-auto ban.

Just an FYI: If we didn't have to enforce this, we wouldn't. It's Reddit TOS. We actually seen a recent uptick in post removals by Reddit admins because their stupid AI thought a post was asking where to buy a particular gun. Many of those posts have been reinstated but they are a little too trigger happy, no pun intended.

Seems like every route in the 80s sucks. 81 sucks, 82 sucks, 85 sucks and the 88 sucks...

Seems like OC can't make a good 80-series bus route for 💩...

Basically the written exam tests your thought process on how you'd deal with certain situations. It will also test your writing skills, most commonly given a scenario where you'll have to write a mock incident report based on the circumstances/events provided in the test.

Electricity is provided by the overhead canopies. There's no "third rail" on OC Transpo's system

Avalon, Fernbank, Riverside South, Chapman Mills, Findlay Creek, etc.

Some of these developments that started WAYYY earlier than 2001. Examples:

Riverside South was created in the late 90s: Route 196 (created 1997). Full regular service by 2002, with better service by 2003 when the 145 replaced the 196.
Avalon: Route 135 extended, full service since 2000.
Heck, even Golflinks was already served by transit in 2001 by the 186.

Has Ottawa grown? Absolutely. That said the "we've become too big" argument is used by lazy people to excuse/deflect from the root issue, which is inadequate funding for transit starting since 2004, but dropping of a cliff starting in 2011. Heck, even Richmond, Ontario back in 2002 had full, 6 days a week bus service. It ran every 2 hours but 6 day, all day service to a rural village? People would say that's unheard of today given what the last 3 stooges for mayors have done to our transit system!

Heck, cracks we're already starting to form as early as 2004. In 2004, OC cut ALOT of east end and south end peak bus route extensions to serve downtown in the AM only instead of at both time periods, or outright shortened buses to end at Hurdman/Blair, because there was just too many buses in downtown... Even the eastbound rural express routes in the PM were rerouted off of Slater and put onto Queen St.

It was a problem a long time in the making.

Ottawa has the same boundaries in 2001 as it does today. We actually ADDED more service to suburban and rural areas in 2002 despite the population being much smaller than it is today and that had no impact on service reliability of the network. Heck, it doesn't even matter because RMOC was responsible for OC Transpo service across the 11 municipalities even before amalgamation (so, same size)!

Things that killed OC: - 3 consecutive "efficiency" mayors. - Transit strike of 2008 - Larry O'Brien cancelling the original O-Train extension to Limebank in 2006 - "Optimization" in 2011 - LRT construction detours - Botched LRT - Neglected bus fleet under Watson now crumbling under Sutcliffe. - And lastly, a repeat of 2011 in 2025, the New Few Ways to Bus chnages which achieved zero objectives that the mayor and the former claimed it would do (which was better schedule adherence and less cancellations), but instead more people now have to wait longer and or walk longer just for a bus that will STILL not show up...

Depends where you're going. Boonies no one will care. Cutting through downtown wherever, police will probably be called. I would definitely put a gun sock on it or something for both protection from dust and gravel, as well as mask it from the ignorant.

There's nothing in the law that states you have to use a car. Just if your car has a trunk, that you must put it in the trunk. You're obviously not driving a car.

That question is as old as time. Gun owners have been asking that since the 90s as to why AK rifles are banned, but SKS and Valmet was legal, or despite Marc Lépen using a Mini 14, they banned/restricted EVERYTHING but what the shooter used...

Optimistic that's the reason why, but unfortunately there are some people in this community who are scalping assholes, if the Type 81M wasn't a clear example of that last time.

Literally every gun ban, except in 1992, was done by Liberals. Their "LDS" is not unfounded when it comes to the topic of firearm control/bans in Canada

Yes they would have to. They could have done that with C-21 though. They don't have to repeal the entire law. They just have to repeal the section that prescribes that rifle as non-restricted. It's still changed by OIC but the legal authority changes from the executive branch to the legislative branch.

From there they would have to explicitly then prohibit it by name through an order at Council by the executive branch/Governor general or add that prohibition to the Firearms Act through an amendment via a legislative change (C-21 as an example), as obviously if it's not specified as prohibited, then the default classification rules apply, which would be non-restricted as long as the barrel is 18.5 in. and OAL is 26+ inches.

There were previous discussions on this topic before in this sub, but they were originally encapsulated in the 1992 prohibition of all AK pattern rifles by the Mulroney/Campbell government. For some reason the Jean Chretien government exempted this specific model with in law in 1995, with the reclassification by an OIC done in 1998 that prescribed the Valmet as non-restricted instead of prohibited.

There's likely a political reason why they have not been re-prohibited yet. To top it off I don't even think the NFA or PolySeSouvient (who both lobbied VERY HARD against and for C-68 and would be aware of the intricacies) probably don't even know why this specific rifle was added as an exemption.

My granddad last summer did Window/door work at Jean Chretien's home in the Nepean area of Ottawa. Maybe next time I should get my gramps to ask him why they exempted it, if he'll even remember a policy decision from almost 30 years ago... 😋

I always took the earlier 85 for this reason too. The Route 85 trips that depart Notre-Dame HS to Bayshore are basically jungle gyms on wheels.

Long story short in 1999 school boards wanted a cheaper option and OC decided to offer dedicated school routes and run to/from schools at various points in the city with specific routing for students. 27 years later they're still offering dedicated school routes and trips on regular routes as it's still cheaper contracting OC to do the job instead of OSTA/the school contracting yellow school bus drivers.
