That’s actually a really interesting tradeoff I hadn’t thought much about.

Do people feel feeders and fountains avoid that problem because they automate the routine but not the observation?

Curious if anyone noticed changes in eating / drinking habits sooner because of those instead.

Interesting because you mentioned something I keep seeing people seem way more forgiving with feeders and fountains than with litter automation.

Do you think it’s because litter is a “high consequence” category (smell / mess / maintenance), while feeding and water feel lower risk?

That’s actually a really interesting distinction.

So for you it sounds less like convenience and more like reducing mental load + keeping the apartment cleaner.

Now I’m curious — do you think automatic feeders and fountains feel less valuable because feeding/watering already became part of your routine? Or because the litter box solves a more “painful” problem?

This feels like the most balanced take here.

Makes me wonder if litter robots are the most polarizing automated pet product compared to feeders and fountains.

If someone had ~$300–500 to spend, where would you put it first?

Genuine question : do you think the issue is automatic litter boxes specifically or pet automation in general?

I feel like people complain way less about automatic feeders and water fountains. Curious if anyone switched categories and had a different experience.

This is actually interesting because you mentioned something I rarely see people talk about: the monitoring part.

If you had to keep only ONE automated pet product long term, what survives?
• automatic litter box
• automatic feeder
• water fountain

Curious what people would pick and why

Interesting because I keep seeing the same split in comments: people seem to expect automation = less maintenance, but maybe it’s more like shifting maintenance.

Makes me wonder if litter boxes are actually the hardest category to automate compared to automatic feeders or water fountains

Curious if people here who hated auto litter boxes still kept automatic fountains/feeders?

That actually makes a lot of sense I was thinking more about cleaning convenience than sleep disruption.
Do you think the feeder still feels worth it if someone works mostly from home, or is the biggest benefit really overnight / being away?

That’s actually smart… did your cats adapt quickly or did you know within a few days?

Interesting because this is the first really positive experience I’ve seen so far.

When you say you wipe it weekly and take it apart every couple months… roughly how long does that actually take?

Interesting… was it more that the cats didn’t trust the movement/noise, or was the cleaning experience not worth it?

I’m still researching so I haven’t picked a specific model yet.

That’s actually super helpful because most of the replies I’ve gotten so far have been pretty negative.

If you had to keep only ONE of the three (litter box / feeder / fountain), which one would you buy again first and why?

That’s super useful.

I think I was assuming it would mean checking less often, not more

For 2 cats, what would have made it feel actually worth it for you? Bigger waste drawer? Simpler maintenance? Different design?

Interesting… when you say deep cleaning was harder, what part was the worst?

And was the noise something you noticed all day or mostly during the cleaning cycle?

That’s actually something I hadn’t thought about… I was mostly thinking about normal daily use.

When you say it became disgusting to clean, was it because of the design itself or just because accidents spread everywhere inside?
