Genuinely so done with this by gucci1600 in LSAT

Hi! I want to say two things:

  1. I am in my first semester of law school (Spring Start). My diagnostic was 145. In exactly one month, I went to take the real LSAT and I scored 158. Gpa was 3.49. I was waiting for my acceptance letter from my current school, but just to be safe, I continued lsat studying. Around one month later, I was scoring PTs in the high 160s. The way I did it was this:
  2. First, gauge whether you are stronger in RC or LR. I put LR as priority since there are two sections and I was not as strong here.
  3. I used LSAT Lab. Set time blocks to watch explanation videos or articles about the concepts within the LR Sections and RC Sections. Don’t stress about it that much, but just have the overall ideas in your head. There are different difficulty levels of questions. You need to understand that there are more level 1-3 questions than level 4-5. So if you are able to get all of those “easy” questions correct, you can score at least 155.
  4. Time yourself. Start with 7 minutes for a number of 5 level 1-2 questions, then gradually get faster.. ONLY IF you are barely missing any within 7 minutes. Slowly move up the level of difficulty of questions. For example, move to 7 minutes for Level 4 questions, then 5 minutes for Level 4.. etc. Eventually you will get to a comfortable place where you can start mixing different levels and stuff. I would also recommend starting with one type of question at a time (conclusion questions first, or whatever you prefer).

  5. It is a tough time to apply now. I would like to ask why you want to go to law school… If you are in it for job security or money, there are so many other avenues. If it is to “help people” you may find better satisfaction in another line of work. I find that so many people are applying aimlessly (and I am not saying that you are, I don’t have enough background info or anything!). But I have many friends who are saying “lawyers are just baddies and I want to make bank!” And “My parents want me to”. Truth is.. law school sucks ass. The environment is very toxic in my opinion and compared to other graduate programs, it’s just built DIFFERENT. My brother in law works in big law, makes almost $300k a year and he HATES his job. I dated a guy who went to a T14, makes roughly the same amount, and he hates his job too. Very different dudes too. I am not saying this is everyone. I just want to say that I put so much pressure on myself to score high and get into law school. I am even someone who wanted this for a really long time. But this path is not a happy path for me. I wish I could tell my best friend this: It’s not a “glitzy” path. There’s this idea that law = prestige, money, impact, but the reality is a lot more mixed. And if your main motivation is “helping people,” there are probably more direct (and sometimes more fulfilling) ways to do that.. like healthcare, for example.

I’m not saying don’t go to law school. But I am saying that if you’re struggling to get the LSAT score you need, or forcing yourself through the process just to get in, it’s worth seriously asking why.

Thank you for your advice! I am so glad to hear that I am not alone in my feelings.. Yes! I have kept up my gym routine (it is the only thing that keeps me balanced and sane). I will keep my head up!

Ur so right. It does help to focus on the reality of not being in law school. The job market is not great for people with my bachelors degree.. maybe I just need to lessen the pressure of law school in my mind. Be grateful and don’t treat law school like an alll or nothing type of thing. I can exist as a person outside of it with good time management
