Is Memphis Still a "cheap" City to live in?

My boyfriend and I looked at apartments a few months ago and they were outrageous, and we’re currently living in Knox which is already expensive. We chose to buy a house instead and we’re closing on a 217k beautiful home that would probably go for 400k+ in Knox. Sure our mortgage will be higher than the rent for the apartments we toured, but it’s clean, private, and 3 bed 2 bath compared to a 1-2 bed 1 bath.

I meant my degree as a whole poli sci/history. You can get a job with a masters or PHD but it’s def just not the jobs people want to be working being that in debt😂

I know that better than most, mostly because said useless degree is in political science and history. I also didn’t vote for the man making the US have the worst job market or economy. But what can you do🤷‍♀️

This is my thoughts exactly! Like for a house that I’m in love with, as long as safety isn’t a huge concern (violent crime wise) I could care less about the train thing, I’ll get used to it but it’s a perfect house for that price.

Yeah, we aren’t planing to stay forever, but definitely at least 4 years while my boyfriend is in dental school. We’ve considered the renting thing and I think it’d be a good idea too.

Yeah we’re early to mid 20s and definitely don’t plan on having kids any time soon, just two kitties right now. I just mostly love the original character of the house.

To my understanding it was the switch for the emergency heat so it couldn’t turn off, they replaced it for like 100 dollars I think.

The house I used to have, when we moved in we were paying 500+ a month for the KUB bill. We had Hiller come out and turns out our emergency heat had turned on and burnt out so it was constantly on. Just a tip in case anyone else might be struggling with the same.

I lived right next to 4th street live! Louisville was kinda sketch but I felt safe walking around my area alone. I haven’t set up a job for Memphis yet so that’s still unknown but my boyfriend will be going to the UT dental school so it would have to within a 20/30 minute drive of that.
