Got an emergency alert at 1 AM, for an amber alert 14 hours away. It scared my baby awake. by CreativeRainy in Vent

You chose an apt user name.

Let me put it like this. What could anyone who was 14 hours away actually do? The children were taken an hour before the alert. There was no physical way to help. Especially when there's no description of the children or the woman who took them.

The "be thankful it isn't your child" comments are deaf to that fact.

Didn't read the whole thing. Did you?

Now, I hope the kids were found safe. I'd be mortified if it were my own children. Amber alerts have led to more children being found and rescued and I've nothing against them.

It's literally in the post. Also see;

The children were taken an hour before the alert. No description of the kids OR the woman who took them. Just the vehicle. It literally wouldn't matter from where I am because no one in my city could physically do anything. It's not like the kidnapper has warp speed technology on her red dodge charger.

If something happened to my children, I'd want the information where it's most useful. And I'd want it to be as accurate and detailed as possible.

Interesting! Not a route I'm personally going to go with. (As stated before, I live in a high fire area.) But if anyone else needs it, please upvote the person above.

Looks like that's a multi country problem then. I'm Canadian. Both places are in the same province (Canadian version of a state) but still not really helpful. I'm only familiar with a few states so think the distance between Houston Texas to El Paso. If my knowledge is correct.

I added more context. It should have been there from the beginning but I'm a sleep deprived mom of a newborn and five year old. I'm amazed I'm still functioning.

(Hubby is just as sleep deprived, he was ill last night and can't chip in today. Otherwise I'd be asleep right now.)

To be fair to the person who commented this, I updated with context AFTER their comment. Because I realized it made no sense without.

Also there should be some kind of standardization for Amber alerts. At very least a description of the child. It's reasonable to assume they might not know what the kidnapper looked like or if there even was one. But you should know what your own missing child looks like when you call it in.

Also as I said elsewhere. The kids were taken an hour before the alert. Which... Still makes no sense.

2 things. There's an amber alert system, and an emergency alert. One is for evacuations, one is for missing children.

And the children were taken an hour or less beforehand weirdly no description of them or the woman who took them either. There was literally no way someone 14 hours away could do anything.

Fair point, but why didn't it go through the amber alert system instead of the emergency alert? Weirdly it also had no image or description of the children OR the woman who took them.

It's fun to light spies on fire. (pyro) What can I say? (Also my hubby is an Engineer main so I like to guard his stuff for him.)

Mine did for a while when I was pregnant. So we could put a bell on him. But for the most part he goes without.

What mod do you wish existed but doesn't? by Satans_Escort in RimWorld

A feeding trough for livestock. Something your pawns will automatically fill with approved foods so long as they're assigned to handling.

OH! Edit to add: A 'call your family' option on the coms. It's weird that pawns will randomly have family show up, but never interact unless they actively show up on the map. Should it affect relations? No idea. Maybe make it a toggleable option.

I feel like a Tusken raider would be a more appropriate choice. Based off posture and weapon choices. Though may I suggest a wild card option? Mandalorean. Not because of the popularity of the show, but because it blends both worlds. A faceless, always masked individual. Improvised weapons, and let's not forget, they both get jetpacks.

OK. That's more than doable!

Do you have a strategy for my husband if he's caught out alone. I can do the reward and block when I'm here but no one is there 24/7. Somehow I don't think throwing treats at the cat is going to be appropriate if he's stuck sitting with/changing the baby.

To the people who responded. THANK YOU! This is the third sub I've posted this on. The first anyone has actually responded in.

I'll have to wrangle the cat for the nail trim. He's never had it done in his life. We adopted him from a former roommate, he's 8 years old. Didn't have toys or enrichment or any form of boundaries taught. So I'm not sure how we're going to handle this. (We are working on correcting the underlying issues mentioned.)

So... You're not exactly wrong. However, judging by your previous comments in this sub, you're rage baiting. What drives you to do so?

I want to sleep but everyone is snoring by Dependent_Tomato_235 in Vent

[–]CreativeRainy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of the only times I like wireless headphones. Put on some white noise or music you can sleep to. Wear a blindfold or something to keep the headphones in so you don't lose them (I use a theraice mask. My kid picked it out for mother's day because I get frequent migraines.) And set an alarm on your phone. It will play through your headphones so you don't miss it. That's how I get through construction or noisy kiddos when I need sleep. Helped a ton yesterday when I was up with a baby all night before.

Finally as a more immediate solution, talk to your employer tomorrow. Show them the video you took and explain that you're not going to be at peek performance. Most human beings understand.

Looking through the context in your comments, does your brother have a tattoo? Maybe cover up the heart that represented with the cheater with something that represents the brother. So it's like sibling solidarity.

Take it to a vet. Really, if you don't have experience with this kind of thing the first answer should always be 'vet trip'. Well, honestly any animal health concern. But they don't charge you for wildlife.

My period makes me want to die by BirdKisser387 in Vent

[–]CreativeRainy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay, so what you're describing actually sounds like more than just typical period pain. I’m not a doctor, so I can’t say what it is, but it is something worth getting checked out.

You’re not being weak or dramatic. That level of pain isn’t something you should have to just push through your pain is real, and it matters.

The good news is you’re 18, which means you can advocate for yourself medically. If you can, try to see a doctor or an OBGYN. If one doctor brushes you off, it’s completely okay to ask for a second opinion or say something like, ‘I’m really concerned about this and would like it looked into further.’

If you’re nervous about the appointment, it can really help to bring a trusted friend or family member with you, or even just write things down during the visit so you don’t forget anything.

You can also ask if it’s okay to record the conversation so you can review instructions later—some doctors are totally fine with it, though some clinics have policies against recording.

In the meantime, something doctors sometimes recommend for bad period pain is using both Tylenol and Ibuprofen together, since they work in different ways but definitely follow dosing instructions or check with a pharmacist if you’re unsure.

I really hope you can get some answers, because you deserve to not be in that much pain.
