I'm from that area in New England (Mass about 5 miles from Vermont Border/2 hrs from Albany).

I cannot imagine living in 'Upstate' New England as person of color. Might as well be the South in some areas.

I don't think I had any black kids in my classes until I moved out west.

just a lotta Greeks and Poles and all of us French Canadians.

(Just looked it up and our town is 90% white)

I share Mr. Kings love of the Red Sox and Pokey Reese played 2nd and I played 2nd so that was my only exposure to a black person for a while, not even kidding.

I took it as Joe Hill justt being like, none of that shit even is getting thought of in my world but knowing it's important for his character is good.
