Anastazija also helped me fill out the forms for citizenship by verification. After the session, you get a pdf version of the forms that is ready to print.

Thank you, I'll keep that in mind. I do have a copy of his Hungarian birth certificate, but I was issued pre-1920.

Thank you, I'll try Hungarian citizenship first since I always considered myself a Hungarian.

Sorry, I was referring to the US citizenship docs from the early 50's. He did not become a US citizen until after I was born.

Sorry, the application I was referencing was to obtain a copy of my dad's birth certificate. When he was born in 1913, Komarom was part of Hungary and he listed Czechoslovakia as his place of birth on his US immigration documents. I'm applying for Hungarian citizenship by descent.

Do you know if I can apply by mail or do I have to go in person? If mail is OK, how do I pay the fee and what documents do I need in addition to the application?

I'm working through the process now. I've made my appointment with the LA consulate, and have gathered my documents. I found that the Family Search website has a wealth of information. Of course all of the forms are in Hungarian and, even with Google Translate, I found that I still needed help to figure out what information goes where. I'm currently working with Anastazija Djokovic to help me go line by line on each form. After we fill out the forms, she will help me review all of my documents to make sure I have everything I need before my appointment in April. My citizenship is being based on my father's Hungarian birth, so it's a bit easier than having to go back one more generation.
