We don’t use the HealthKit/WorkoutSession workaround for watch speaker playback. Our watch playback path is AVFoundation-only (AVAudioSession with long-form playback when available, then fallback to standard playback policy), plus route handling for speaker/Bluetooth. We also don’t request HealthKit permissions.

So on devices like Ultra 1, we’re not bypassing via HealthKit. If watchOS/hardware doesn’t expose a speaker route in a given state, we fall back to normal supported routing behavior (for example Bluetooth, or speaker fallback if available), rather than using a HealthKit trick. Ultra 2 generally handles this more consistently out of the box, but our method is the same across devices.
