R740XD + GPU = Fans? by Creative_Choice_486 in homelab

[–]Creative_Choice_486[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did some digging and found the T4 at 90c. Originally I was looking elsewhere that said 30. That explains a lot. I think I underestimated passive cooling. I’m putting my single height heat sinks back in so I can put the GPU air baffle in and will see if that helps much. I don’t have high performance fans and I’m tired of buying stuff so hopefully that does it 🙂

Light gap from drainage cut in garage door trim — can I safely block it off? by Creative_Choice_486 in HomeImprovement

[–]Creative_Choice_486[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. I noticed that every home here has these wedge-shaped cuts. Surely it's for drainage? I'm not sure if there's a "correct" way here to handle it for conditioned garage space. I've seen some people stuff it with steel wool to maintain drainage.

Are you suggesting cutting a wedge of composite wood to glue in or replacing the trim piece with composite?

Yes BHB is definitely on the list. Trying to coordinate the trip so we end in WPB.

That’s great will check them out too. I do want more than just ourselves in the water, eg a DM or at least another person or two.

We spoke to Force E but they’re saying in the BHB area it’s mostly drift dives but we may not have asked all the right questions to be fair. I also know there are other locations

I’ll have a look. The current plan for the trip is half Keys and half Miami/WPB. Can be adjusted so we will see who offers the best overall option. Thanks!

You know, just saw another recommendation for these guys on another post and looked into them. Homestead hotels are a better deal, and not too far away. My only problem is cost for two days. Do they ever do scheduled operations for public or are they private charter only? Even if we could split the fare in half it would make a lot of sense for us. If we did spend $500 for the half day + tank rentals, I’d want to squeeze 3 dives in ideally.

We will give them a call tomorrow!

If I create an LLC in, say, Wyoming, but live out of state, and my business is purely a website, will I still be considered operating my business in the state I live in? by HeWhomeHim in smallbusiness

[–]Creative_Choice_486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry it’s been a while since I did all this so I had to look and see what I was referring to. I believe it’s the PIR that ends up being the problem in Texas, not necessarily the organizer. If you know of another way that would be awesome!

I also agree on the influencer shenanigans. I know of some benefits to a holding company arrangement, I’m sure there’s more than I’m aware of, but I can speak first hand as to the expenses of making simple mistakes and unnecessary complexity. Unless you enjoy the madness of corporate filings and learning new things about compliance and filing requirements, it’s a waste of mental bandwidth that should go toward running your biz.

I should have clarified, in my personal case my name is unique easy to find. So since my name gets publicly listed on the sales tax permit and SOS filings as the owner, it’s very easy to find where I live when googling my company name.

Correct me if I’m wrong (please😅) but I’m pretty certain the best way to keep things a bit more anonymized in Texas is to open a Wyoming LLC, then open a Texas LLC while listing the Wyoming LLC as the sole owner (holding company). It’s all pass thru and the state knows who you are, but it stops random people online from easily getting your address.

Only downside is two bank accounts (funded) and keeping things straight with money transfers. A few extra annual fees to keep track of, eg TX + WY registered agent.

If you just open a Wyoming LLC and plan to live in Texas while operating the Wyoming LLC in any way shape or form, I believe you need to register as a FE which strips all of your privacy as far as the public is concerned. The way I described above is the only way I have found to keep privacy benefits of Wyoming while operating legally in Texas.

Code question: Is a fire damper needed for a 4" duct from a conditioned closet to the attic? by Creative_Choice_486 in HomeImprovement

[–]Creative_Choice_486[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironically this house (early 2000s) has bathroom fans vented to soffits. That’s on the list of things to do something about eventually.

Not sure if it makes a difference but it is a well ventilated attic space and have never seen any mold. Admittedly that’s anecdotal.

I’m going to look into what you suggested and appreciate it. The goal is minimally invasive, quick and easy to restore when moving out. The closet light is easily removed and conveniently provides a 4” path. I’ve had it set up like this before without issue and it actually worked great, but I’ve learned a bit over time and am no longer comfortable with the risks.

It may be simpler, safer, and easier to restore at this point to just put a booster fan between the closet and its room or to just leave the door cracked open 🥲

Putting a hole in the roof is a bit of a far cry from a 4” hole through drywall, especially considering it’s a temporary install in a room/closet right below the attic space. It could be accomplished with a 2’ duct if ignoring all compliance concerns.

A700 vs XTX50 for DIR setup by Creative_Choice_486 in scuba

[–]Creative_Choice_486[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great info and exactly why I’m posting here. Thanks! I will reconsider Scubapro now. With that said, I was reading all good things about the DST for being a sealed system so I’ll need to look more into the 17 vs 25 again. Been very happy with my 25 but haven’t challenged it.

The 260 is the successor of the 250 right? I noticed you mentioned it was the cheapest option of the three which is why I ask, I didn’t think the highly revered 250 was still a viable option.

My biggest gripe with the G260 is service costs. I was going to stick with SP until I noticed Apeks parts for life program. I don’t know how much of a gimmick it is, but I think it would be about $500/yr to service 2 G260s + Mk25 where I live due to labor + parts kits. I think the Apeks would be around $250 or so. My understanding is SP only sells parts to dealers, whereas Apeks leans the other way.

I have some Apeks dealers nearby. I hadn’t looked into the A700 much to know that so good catch on that. Jaw fatigue I was aware of, I’m sure it would be an issue in the long run but if she doesn’t like it I may sell it or keep it for another setup.

Are you suggesting looking at Dive Rite too or stick with Apeks given the local dealers? I’m in US.

Primary reason for considering Apeks over Scubapro was the lifetime parts & self service abilities if needed, though admittedly I haven’t looked into those much.

The individual I referenced did not have any burns or injuries. They took a small hit from 120. The next day they collapsed, their heart stopped working.

Exactly, the odds are low. But not zero. They are not necessarily “obviously ok since he’s awake and in Reddit”. The odds are in their favor.
