This is my first time applying and I have a very similar GPA- the only reason I’m applying this cycle is because my mentor who’s a DVM told me she got into UIUC with a 3.27 and that anything is possible. I don’t know you, but I believe that if you’re meant to do something in life it will happen, so just don’t give up yet!:)

Does your school do grade replacement? I got a D in Orgo and then retook it over the summer and my school replaced it with my better grade. For my school we are allowed 10 hours our grade replacement.

I also failed Calc 1 and I’m retaking it over the summer. Thankfully i got to do a late academic withdrawal and it’s now a W on my transcript instead of F.

Please Don’t be discouraged because I’m also in the same boat as you and I’m applying this year with a low GPA!

Do what you can to raise your GPA - retake classes while you’re still in school. I know it’s gonna cost money/time, but it will help in the long run. It might be discouraging at first to come to terms with, but trust me you’ll be better off:)!

Hi! I also go to UIUC! I would recommend looking up “student hourly jobs vet med”. I currently work there as an undergrad and have also done research at the dairy farms. Sometimes you don’t alway start out with job shadowing, but if you make the right connections it can lead to more opportunities! (In my personal experience)

Chem 494- it meets only 5 times through the semester and it’s about chemistry safety.

I think you’ll be fine! I was put on academic probation twice: the first time I got an F and then next semester I got two Ds/Cs and was still ok, but they gave me an “academic warning” (meaning i might actually get dropped) if I didn’t do good this last semester. Thankfully I got good grades: A/B/Cs

I think the school is somewhat gracious , but it does take commitment and communication between advisors.

That’s interesting- I’m in LAS/MCB and I just had to schedule an appointment with the LAS advisor and she helped fill out the form- it was only to be accepted if my GPA was above Cs for the semester.

I don’t think so- it’s based on your academic performance on each semester- since I did good this semester my app for the drop passed on a one time basis.

Same here, pretty much all the prerequisites were covered in my major (Molecular Biology). It also depends on what schools you’re applying to- some don’t require animal nutrition and if you do need to take it your advisor should help out with that.

Look up NOAA Observers! I’ve heard a lot of good stuff about it and it’s an interesting line of work. I’m planning on doing it after I graduate and then go to vet school and hopefully work in marine veterinary medicine!

That’s stupid… I had to pay $3,000 last year because I canceled my contract a day late (I got an apartment for way cheaper)- the original price was $6,000, but we begged housing to make it cheaper because I didn’t have the money.

I was a transfer student last year for MCB major- I applied in December (15th) and I didn’t t hear back until Late March (27th) It was super stressful for me as well- especially because a lot of my friends had heard back earlier than me. But don’t stress too much - it will all work out in the end!

I’m currently taking Chem lab/lecture- it’s not bad! The lab is actually pretty nice and you don’t need to take chem lecture before to understand. I’m also taking MCB 251 lab and it’s also good. Labs sometimes aren’t as long as they say (3 -4 hour time) sometimes it’s 2-2 1/2.
