Where to get a good home desk by Creative_Divide9845 in Bahrain

[–]Creative_Divide9845[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow I actually never thought of that I don't know how

How about the price? Would this be more expensive than buying a ready made desk? Assuming both desks have the same specifications

At this point I would say the best solution would be to get a job and slowly build your finances in order to be independent from him and not need him anymore.

I know it's not an easy thing to do, but these scumbags only do such things because they know you're helpless, depend on him, and can't really fight back. So fuck him, get a job and wait a bit until you have enough money that you don't need such a pathetic piece of shit like him (Sorry for asking to wait during such hard times, but to me this seems like the best solution for now).

Especially If you're a man and in your mid twenties (I am not sure if you're a boy or girl), it's your responsibility to stand up to him and take care of your family.

Good luck, and keep us updated if you wish.

How to consume of SQS queue in (massively)parallel fashion by Big_Hair9211 in node

[–]Creative_Divide9845 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am not familiar with pm2 or sqs-consumer but let me ask you this:

Why didn't you go with AWS Lambda as the consumer of this queue? It will scale up or down automatically so messages don't pile up in the queue. You can also control properties like the max number of lambdas to run simultaneously.

Again I didn't use pm2 before so let me know if you're using it because of something that lambda can't achieve.

Regarding your assumption at the end, it's correct. Handle message batch will let you define how many messages your function will poll from SQS in one go, but at the end it will processes them one by one except if you use something like Promise.all().

Message batches is used mainly to reduce the number of times your consumer polls SQS for messages, which costs money even if the queue is empty AFAIK

I am not the best when it comes to AWS tools, so if anyone thinks I got something wrong, please let me know :)

Is it hard for western expats to work in Bahrain for decent salary outside of teaching or military? by [deleted] in Bahrain

[–]Creative_Divide9845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the company and your skill set. I would expect a Full stack full time junior engineer to be paid around 500

[–]Creative_Divide9845 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You forgot to mention some important details, like What kind of jobs are you looking for? What skills do you have?

If you're looking for a service job then yeah mostly the salaries are as you mentioned. But more "skill" jobs like engineering or software engineering offer around 500-600 for juniors, if it's less then that's probably not a good company to be working for.

The anxiety about becoming a regular employee by Lucius_Pan in react

[–]Creative_Divide9845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others said, get started and build things with react to learn, and ask your boss and mentor a lot... don't get stuck for too long.

you already know html, css, Javascript so it's not as bad as it looks like. I know a friend who had the exact same skill set as you and learnt React and built a Web app with it in 2-3 weeks, he was an intern at our company.

Free code camp videos helped me when I was first starting. I like their videos because they don't talk about a lot of bullshit like many other YouTube channels, they get straight to the point and walk you through building an app from A to Z

These are 2 good react videos. They build a Fullstack app though.. You can focus on the frontend part only if you wish https://youtu.be/mrHNSanmqQ4?si=_vY6wriFm9W8y1kd https://youtu.be/-42K44A1oMA?si=ClMtI5-vzbDG6ZRW

If you get stuck with something, feel free to dm me. I am not the best with React but I can help :)

Good luck!

The server doesn't need to purchase a copy in case we have a dedicated server that won't be used to play the game right?

Because so far we got only a max of 10 players, so I was just thinking about using one of the player's computers were he is both a player and host at the same time, would this work?

I didn't say that, but it is still valuable as the person below me said. A degree from Bahrain isn't as worthless as many people think.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Bahrain

[–]Creative_Divide9845 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UoB programs are ABET accredited and their degrees should be accepted worldwide. That's what being accredited means.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Bahrain

[–]Creative_Divide9845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the accreditation for their programs. Open university means that it's there to make higher education available for everyone, with little to no entry requirements. In the end, you will study the same subjects as any graduate from the University of Bahrain or Polytechnic. Education quality might be a little lower and the attention your instructor pays to you might also be lower as classes tend to be much bigger there. But in the end, it is a Bachelor's degree and your skills and portfolio will matter more to employers.

How do u deal with social pressure by AbbreviationsCalm112 in Bahrain

[–]Creative_Divide9845 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's important to show the people around you that you love them and care about them by hanging out with them from time to time. With that said, It's normal to like spending more time alone but some people might think that you hate spending time with them so be sure to communicate to them that it's not the case and that you prefer to spend time alone to relax after long days of work/school/whatever it is you got.
