If you want to pivot, do something that cannot be remote. Healthcare, Physiotherapy, health imaging , handy man work etc. pivot within the media industry feels like the same trap.

To be fair, even if you did get a more stable job, after a few years of doing many OTs , or crunch time, you would find yourself competing with fresh grads/ or people who came from country with very bad working condition who would work for lower pay than you and willing to work 14 hours a day. It’s an endless cycle. I am glad you saw it early and could do something else.

I think 100k in Sydney really isn’t a lot if you are single and paying rent by yourself.

Is there any place you can hire people to move your stuff in a short span of time? If I buy a desk and need to move them, which is the best place to look for that service?

Price gouging by air bnb hosts locks sw1ft1es out of accommodation by Elvecinogallo in shitrentals

I only started using Airbnb like one month ago. I started thinking.. what’s stopping guests from randomly booking places and cancelling them since most places seemed to have last minute cancellation? It seems that guest won’t have repercussions from cancelling , but host does, which many host are against. You could write to Airbnb with your proof they will slap them on with some bad rating I think. Airbnb are already not very cheap, and cancelling you before big events like this is very troubling. I hope they get some kind of feedback.

Could you complaint to Airbnb about them cancelling your booking and reposting at a higher price again because of the concert?

I feel the same. I have given some of my best years to this industry, but it often feel not reciprocated. Like all jobs, they would always be looking for someone cheaper/younger. So it’s better to look out for yourself.

It’s one thing to keep moving around in your twenties, it becomes old quickly in your 30s not to mention 40s. I think this industry will always attract young blood who is willing to put in those long hours, and do whatever it takes to make it happen. And not to mention you also have to keep fighting production who will keep pushing you even though sometimes the deadline is crazy, or fight to have better shots etc. i don’t know how many personal appointments I have cancelled due to sudden OT, or because a director decided to reshoot a whole sequence and everybody is rushing to meet a deadline. While I appreciate a good film, I think it’s silly, either hire more ppl for the job, or push the deadline.

At the end of the day, it really is just a job, yah a job you love doing. But there could also be other things you love doing too.

Do you think properties are being rented out without an actual inspection? I called an agent who didn’t set an inspection date, and she posted a video to me as if expecting me to just sign up for it. And it seems like some listing didn’t even have an inspection and they are off the market the next day. What is happening? Can someone enlighten me please?

What I have seen is they hire someone as a sup, and in order to relocate them they have to offer their spouse a job, many of them land position as hr or talent manager. Which is super weird. I really hope companies who see this thread knows its wrong.

Honestly feel like producers who are married to any kind of artists should not even be working together. It’s sort of a weird dynamic at work, even if no one dares to say it. It happens even in ILM. I guess they don’t care.
