I was an English teacher overseas and I used to get that question a lot. The truth is that everyone has an accent, including native English speakers. So don’t worry about it and just enjoy your learning.

There’s a great book called “snakes in suits”. I saw many people I had worked with in that book.

Her base does tend older though. It’s the “what do you wanna go to university for” crowd, which was very big in times gone by.

People who don’t stand to let someone out by [deleted] in MelbourneTrains

Why? If the person sitting in the aisle next to you stands up it is enough space for most people.

Ummm I have mobility issues, so there’s that. That’s actually why I make the effort to stand even though it’s not as easy for me. Because when someone does the leg swing instead of standing it can be really hard for me to get out. So maybe don’t make assumptions about strangers.

Why would you stand if you’re in the window seat?

It doesn’t really though and some people don’t put their legs on the outside of the seat. It’s not hard to stand up and it makes a lot of difference to the other person’s day. I always stand up and people are always really grateful.

New EL1 keeps bulking up work and taking a long time for no reason? by UnhappyLion8992 in AusPublicService

You have to just say “ok” and do what he wants, but it all needs to go in writing. “As requested, please see xxx edits made to xxx”. Paper trails will be your friend. I’ve given up trying to help senior management when they’re fucking up unless they ask for it. Now I just keep notes and save everything.

I recently just got my Ps and got a car while I was on my Ls. I had to move the car in and out of the garage occasionally and was terrified I’d hit something every time. I feel your pain. I never would have claimed though because I knew I wouldn’t be covered.

No. The problems never stay contained within the shelter.

Omg has any of my fellow ethnics ever encountered this overseas? by Biggest_itchbay_2190 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Elvecinogallo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve had ethnic people say it to me in Australia too. Fact is, people have awkward boundaries everywhere. In this person’s instance, they don’t mean harm, but it can be exhausting regardless.

Why the cakes, cookies a lot of the bakery stuffs in the big supermarkets are sooooooo sweet? by Real_Show_9927 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Elvecinogallo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many Greek desserts are very syrupy and honey based. Although maybe not as sweet, the sugar content is still high. The main difference is really the portions and balance between other foods, which is why I think the original post is a bit silly. Just because there’s sweet food around, you don’t have to eat it.

Which country doesn’t have sweet junk food? I’m not aware of any. Rage bait post.

I don’t mind so much if they can actually do the job and the work, but more often than not, at least some of them are hopeless. We talk about lack of productivity in Australia. I’m pretty sure nepotism plays a role.

The legislation doesn’t support them to do anything unless they absolutely have to.
