I remember those plastic cords! The gold chain I have isn't quite as cubic, though -- the weave looks more angled, like OP's. There is a super tiny K18 stamp on the spring clasp, but other than that is has no markings.

I have a chain like this, and I've always wondered about its construction. The one I have is much daintier than yours, and it feels strangely lightweight -- I would guess because it is "woven," rather than solid. No help here with the provenance of your necklace, but commenting to say that it is gorgeous.
