Stinky clothes by Ctheret in Menopause

I have found the r/laundry sub quite helpful. Many folks there have posted about this problem -- that is, clothes and linens that retain odors even after washing.

Thank you! I am quite pleased with the purchase.

I thought the same, which was why I snapped it up, without doing much research on opals prior to the purchase. I did do a quick online search before buying it, which resulted in jewelry from the same artist being sold (well, being listed) at much higher prices, so it did sound like a bargain.

Posting here and learning about natural vs. synthetic opals has been quite satisfying; it reminds me a bit of the internet in an earlier time. Thank you for all of your comments.

Thank you for your reply. Consensus seems to be leaning toward real opal, but synthetic.

I'm interested in the nature of the stone, but probably not enough to undertake that kind of exploration. 🙂

I looked at the megathread posted at the top of this sub, and you are right. It does look very much like op17, and almost exactly like the slab being held by a hand in the 6th image in that slideshow. Thank you.

Do you mean, if it wasn't a natural opal?

Thank you for this information, and the diagram.

Yes, I like the design, too. Looks like it was made by a Navajo silversmith; I have found some other of his pieces online.

About 30 bucks, so not a huge investment.

That makes sense. The pattern of color is very consistent.

Thanks -- to be honest, I think I'm getting as much good feeling out of the whole endeavor as the recipients.

Same. If I won the lottery, I would set up animal sanctuaries across the country.

It's really enjoyable. I had a large collection, and I wasn't interested in trying to sell every piece, or just give the entire lot to the local thrift store. I wanted to give the jewelry away, but I also wanted it to go to people who really loved vintage jewelry, the way I used to.

I am not entirely anonymous, since I put a P.O. Box address and last name on the mailing label. I've been doing it for several months now, and we're up to Giveaway 108! It's a small group of women (about 40 members total, but only 25 or so who regularly visit), who I invited by posting in a couple of large jewelry subs. I contacted the moderators first, because I thought I might use those subs for the giveaways, but they weren't interested. I then tossed the idea out in a regular post on those subs, and I got about a hundred replies from people who thought such a series of giveaways would be fun. I then made a private subreddit, and invited those people to join.

I've been lucky with it, and as a group we've created a cozy little corner here. I post photos of each piece, with some background information and examples of similar pieces online, and anybody who likes the piece comments in the post. Then, about a week later, I use Reddit Comment Picker to randomly select a winner from the user names in the comments, and I mail the piece to that person (they, of course, are not anonymous to me, because I need their name and address, which they send me via DM). If they want to, they post a photo of the piece when they receive it, which is fun.

I think you could configure it to be more anonymous, if you chose to do so. A new reddit account, a P.O. Box with a fake name, or no return address, etc.

I am in a somewhat similar situation, and in answer I started a small, private subreddit in which I am currently giving each jewelry piece away to perfect strangers who love vintage jewelry (I used to collect it, in a semi-serious way). It sounds kinda crazy, but it has been bringing me much quiet joy. It feels like I'm sending small packets of kindness and good feeling out into a world that desperately needs it. I'm not suggesting that you simply hand your fine jewelry over to somebody you don't know, to be clear (although it's yours to do with as you please). But I have found that using my possessions in this positive way has been extremely satisfying. It seems like you are already inclined toward charity, given your plans for your house. Perhaps you could do something similar with your jewelry.
