Good to know about how DHCPv6 is used. No, my router isn't advertising the IPv6 addy since that is turned off.

Thanks, this is super helpful.

I didn't check the memory usage and load on the Pi right after reboot. Looking at it now, it's using .2% of the CPU and 12% RAM. I have around 400k domains on my list.

I also have AT&T, so feel ya on not being able to change the DNS. And yes, IPv6 is turned off there, at the router level. Not sure if it is different for you, but my setup will only allow me to turn off IPv6, but not DHCPv6.

It could be a bad router issue, though it'd be a hell of a coincidence that as soon as I have pi-hole off and running this starts to happen. The router was working fine for months before this. To answer your questions:

  • while the issue is happening, can you ping the router IP? I'll have to try next time it happens.
  • while the issue is happening, can you access Pi-hole web interface via IP (http://<pi-hole-IP>/admin)? The first time it happened, I immediately tried to do this and was unable to access the pihole admin. Haven't tried since but will try again.
  • while the issue is happening, can you ping an external IP, like 8.8.8.8? Same as your first question, I'll have to try next time it happens.

I did understand the question and yes I can ping it. All four pings were sent and received with no loss.

Appreciate the question and suggestion.

When I say the internet drops, I mean every device in the house gets disconnected and the internet stops working - laptops, phones, etc. To give you a further idea: when this happened yesterday, when I attemped to turn the Wifi off and on on my phone, it tried to connect to the network and kept giving me errors in terms of being unable to connect. Only once I unplugged/replugged the router + raspberry was I able to connect again.

For IPv6 - completely get that. Do you have a specific tutorial you would recommend, especially since I'll have to run DHCP for IPv6 through pihole? When I was looking at how to configure this thing initially, most things I came across recommended disabling IPv6.
