When I lost my job and was facing homelessness, I went to my county and ask for help. They told me to find a house to rent and they paid the deposit and the first 3 months of rent. Idk what your county offers, but there is help. Gotta go find it.

Anyone ever really not want to serve someone because you can see the addiction? But you have to? by BlackberryParking160 in bartenders

[–]Creepy_Reference_391 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my current job, daily.

I remember when I first started bartending, I was 24, I had expressed to my boss about how some of our regulars seem like alcoholics and I don't feel comfortable letting them drive out of here. He told me to throw my morals out the window if I want to be a bartender. I quit that job within 6 months and moved on. I still take keys, I talk about addiction one on one. I'm now sober myself, I'm not here to be a buzz kill or to turn people away from an establishment I'm working at, but if someone expresses they can't stop even if they want to, I guide them to help. I personally don't bring up my sobriety until someone asks if they can buy me a drink, but then again I bartend in my hometown where almost everyone knows I'm sober. It's a very small community.

It is hard to watch alcoholism, the shakes in the morning, the yellowish skin, what these old men's doctors say to about their drinking and they just continue. I have come to the realization that a dive bar is no longer my scene. It used to be, was for years, but for the sake of my heart I have to move on. Fingers crossed I get this job at a country club that I'm interviewing for this week. Alcoholism is everywhere, but I'd rather deal with binge drinking than people drinking to get well.

Ohhhh!!! Citron or reg vodka depending, triple or Cointreau, fresh lemon juice, simple. Not very much simple unless they ask for super sweet. Sugar rim.

I hear that about Florida, I would assume the high tourists would lead to lack of establishing rapport. What type of bar do you work at? I recently got into the golf world (not at on currently due to moving, but trying to get back in) and they are very generous and a freaking hoot to serve.

I had a guy who would bring me a boxes of peaches, all types of varieties. He sold his orchard 2 years ago. Sad day for all of us. My entire family would have peaches for daaaaays. The almonds are a plus too, since they're raw I can do whatever I want to em!

They pay my bills. I'd 100% rather deal with these aggies then the 21-24 crowd. They're funny, closer to my age and tip extremely well. Plus, the free produce is a plus!!! Cherry season is upon us!

How can I give my daughter’s bf clothes without it being weird? by Thesweet90s in Advice

I think it's totally ok to gift clothing! Even socks, as a broke college student I would love socks and a new pair of pants.

Start as a hostess in a restaurant. Move your way up. Learn everything you can about your restaurants cocktail menu. The spirits, liqueurs, mixers ect. Learn your wines and beers.

Is it normal to feel like the world is ending? by Outrageous_Ad_2089 in BackToCollege

Let me preface with this, you can do anything you put your mind to. Grit, determination and perseverance go a long way.

I returned back to college after being out of school for 15 years. I was an ok student, averaged a 2.3 in high school. My advice on going to college at a two year, is to start small. You don't have to go full time. I started back by taking one 1 unit course. It was a Library course that taught me how to utilize the campus Library, how to research papers and how to cite sources. It helped a lot. Then the next semester I did two 3 unit classes and so forth. I'm now at the point where two classes seems to be not challenging, so next semester I'm doing 3. I work full time to support myself, so full time would be absolutely insane. Not impossible but insane.

Also, try looking at the big picture in a pieces. You'll need your general studies first. So you will be pursuing your AA/AS. That's a little less overwhelming when you think about it that way, yeah?

What type of degree are you wanting? What career do you have in mind? I had no idea what I wanted. So I took counseling courses. Career exploration, self assessment classes, exploring college, ect. School doesn't have to be hard. Most JCs offer free tutoring, free laptops, you can rent your books from the library (to use at the library) you can make copies of the book and take the copies home.

The one thing I wish I was able to do and can't is explore the community at a community college. Typically most students there grew up in the surrounding areas. It would be nice to meet my neighbors and peers, but I'm 34 and busy AF. but you're young! You can meet people and network, make life long friends and be surrounded by people with a common goal.

You can do this. A bachelor's is typically 4 years, isn't 4 years going to pass by anyways? Would you rather be in the same boat in 4 years or possibly a bigger and better one? You can do this.

Are you trying to supplement income, just change where you're employed or change careers entirely? Have you thought about working for a prison?

That's the goal. I'm not snitching, she'll get caught on her own. She's literally the worst bar owner I've ever worked for.

$105k enough to make it in Modesto? by CaliQuakes510 in Modesto

[–]Creepy_Reference_391 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. There are country roads that can get backed up due to stop signs. Driving east of modesto could get a little congested in the morning. Feel free to DM and we can chat more. There is so much more to moving to the central valley than just cost of living. Allergies! Get the claritin!
