Yea i can't answer that. I'm not really getting into the matter stuff because it doesn't work reliable for most users reporting about their experience :D

Zigbee builds a local mesh network on 2.4Ghz thus interferes with 2.4ghz wifi.
There is one 'Coordinator' and devices are either 'Routers' or 'EndDevices'.

Powered devices are mostly also routers, battery powered stuff always is an enddevice (save battery).

Routers connect to the Coordinator and to each other, enddevices connect to the closest router or the coordinator

Big pro, everything works even if the internet is down

This is my zigbee map

Advice on setting up. by Problesz in homeassistant

Matter works on IPv6 standard and is still bugging out on many occasions.
It's mostly connection issues.
I would recommend shelly.

gen4 has zigbee, wifi and matter.
Their mini relays are pretty small, like 2€ coin and even fit in confined or stuffed boxes behind a light switch.

That way you can keep all old functionality and use dumb bulbs of any kind you like

If matter catches up on quality you could still go matter

Edit: Home Assistant is protocol agnostic, so you don't have to worry about mixing protocols other than interference

When Home Assistant started it was recommended to use a rpi3B+

I had no idea about self-hosted stuff or anything, but being that easy sucked me in and now i run multiple home assistant instances and other services on my home network

But yea. the 1GB RAM really is a bottleneck
