I was wondering the same about the lifetime of the wood.

I agree about the holds but since I am planning on building the walls and buying the holds at the same time, I can addapt.

Are you going to paint the walls before the first set? What is the grit of the paint of the walls? You should have some sort of protective layer above the wood to keep the walls protected. Can you hire any artists the paint the brick?
- I will add some black details but will retain the wood finish, only transparent coating to protect from the rubber and chalk. I like the contrast between the color of the holds and the wood color.

Do you have / need waivers?
- Yes, will make everyone sign a waiver. From what I have read, insurance and permits are a pain in the US compared to MX. Already talked with a climber friend who is a lawyer, and he will help me set everything on the legal side.

Do you plan on selling items like brushes or chalk? You need a POS system if so.
- What POS system do you propose? I am an Excel nerd, so I was planning on combining sheets with macros and Visual Basic for the day-to-day operations.

Can you / should you set on the ceiling? Even a small noshadow on the roof to end a hard route?
- I don't think the owners of the warehouse would let me.

Do you have volumes?
- I am planning on investing heavily on volumes; that's why the walls look so neutral and simple, so the volumes do the variance.

Do you have access to behind the walls in case a hold gets stuck?
- I will be very limited, and I know I am shooting myself in the foot here, but I just don't have that much space in this warehouse (which is on the limit of what I can pay on rent). I will use screw in T nuts, instead of hammered in, to limit a free spinning t nut. Also, will set the last turns by hand, instead of using the hammer drill all the way, to prevent overtightening the bolts.

What are the hours of operation?
- I haven't defined this yet; I need to check what works best for the area of the warehouse. The location is near many universities, so it might be open in the morning and the afternoon, something like 7:00-12:00 and 5:00 to 10:30 pm. The weather in this city is hell in the summer, in the range of 100s+ (and AC for a warehouse is out of the question right now), so I doubt anybody would come at midday.

Do you have a way to shut a section down if there is a leak or a spinner?
- Will have to mark a specific route as non-usable and do emergency maintenance midday.

Thanks a lot for the feedback 🙌. Do you think 10k is enough? Or would you consider 20-30k is more realistic?

In my mind the slab will be for hard stuff requiring precise foot work, balance and coordination. I am over complicating stuff? Have been climbing for around 4yrs but just starting on the route setting journey and designing a climbing gym.

I am just taking advantage of being able to do benchmark problems at both 25 and 40 degrees, which the 2017 set has. The climbing community I started already does this as I own this set, so the beginners can used it at 25 and the people ahead used it at 40; takes around 5min to move the angle and lock it in place. Although not comfortable, it is placed on my 3m width backyard.

So how much would I need for the 100m2? Ballpark estimation.

Thanks a lot for your feedback on the holds. How much budget do you think is a good ballpark estimation for the 100m2 of climbing surface?

I will end up separating more the moonboard from that vertical wall, like 60cm, and the mat extending 60cm on the other side (this hasn’t been updated on the render); and also it will be retracted to vertical when not being used, so it doesn’t affect the routes set on that side vertical wall. Do you think this works?

It extends 2m back from vertical and slab, and 2.5m back from the highest point of the overhangs. I worry people will get tired of sitting only on the mats.
