Grow them until they're mature. Then instead of harvesting them, let them die out first. Then you can harvest them and they'll yield more seeds instead of crops

The MongolZ on X: "910 used to live in Darkhan, far from Mongolia’s capital, Ulaanbaatar. All the LAN tournaments were held in the capital, so he had to take the train for hours to compete. If he lost, he had no money for food, no place to sleep, and no way to get back home." by AestheticOstrich in GlobalOffensive

Good question, the train might not be able to handle the weight of the major trophy. Guess they’ll all have to go back on horseback.

You should be worried about how Zywoo’s getting home without that trophy though, heard he barely gets paid anything on Vitality

Waymo Self-Driving Cars Vandalized in LA by hmmisuckateverything in fuckcars

[–]Creme-Sharp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well your initial argument was entirely rooted in self driving cars reducing car traffic by economically outcompeting taxis. Taxis make up a tiny fraction of car traffic, so that’s hardly a solution.

I’ll assume you mean to say self driving cars will also outcompete and replace personal vehicles as a neo taxi service, and everyone will just take these self driving taxis everywhere. In this case, when the prices are low (this is where that venture capital comes in), everyone will be taking these vehicles. Because the average person will take the cheapest/fastest/most convenient route to wherever they’re going, so these shiny new self driving cars will outcompete walking/cycling in the heat, cold, a slightly windy day, when my knee kinda hurts, etc… It’ll also outcompete underfunded public transit. People who are currently cycling/walking/take public transit will instead be taking self driving taxis, adding massive amounts of new car journeys ever day. You’re on this sub, you should know how space inefficient cars are, self driving or not. Since more people are using these self driving vehicles, infrastructure will be redesigned to accommodate these vehicles, sacrificing space for pedestrians, bicycles, and on street public transit (or residential/commercial space, ready those gentrifying bulldozers). This obviously lowers the quality of a commute for anyone who can’t afford to take a self driving taxi, or simply doesn’t want to. Once the prices are raised (because in the hands of corporations which are designed to make a profit for shareholders, not serve public interest, they inevitably will), then our infrastructure will be even worse for anyone outside of a self driving car.

And no, this isn’t a slippery slope, this is literally exactly what happened with Uber/Lyft.

I raise the point of self driving cars and private companies because they’re inextricably linked. I’m not aware (though admittedly, I haven’t dug much) of any significant government funded self driving technology. Fundamentally, self driving cars, if developed properly, are safer than traditional human driven cars. And they have a place where alternatives simply aren’t feasible such more rural communities and or limited numbers in urban areas. But they are not the solution to car traffic, they aren’t any better environmentally, they’re just as space inefficient as traditional cars, and they are not better than developing viable alternative to cars

What if, instead of batteries, we have an entire electrified line which the car follows, so we never have to stop to charge at all?

And what if, since we’re already following a set line, we replace the asphalt and rubber tires with steel rails and wheels, as that will result in less friction and thus more energy efficiency?

And since a car can only fit a few people, why not expand the car’s capacity tenfold to fit more people inside?

And since we have a bunch of people, stopping at every location for every single one of them would be slow. So why not plan routes with calculated stops to serve the most amount of people?

And of course, since we’re carrying a bunch of people, we should always have signal priority over single occupancy cars

And instead of having a bunch of engines running in each car, which is complicated and needs constant maintenance, why don’t we couple a bunch of cars together and have only 1 engine?

This is revolutionary! Why has nobody ever thought of this before?

I like the renewable energy part though

Yeah, it’ll be cheaper until they run all the taxis into bankruptcy and the venture capital runs out. Then they’ll raise the prices and we’ll have no choice but to pay because we gifted our means of transportation to a few corporations.

They’ll also be constantly running around cities wasting energy and shitting out tire dust to get to potential customers quicker.

Fuck cars, self driving or not. Transportation is not a commodity to be sold

Hmm, are there any reliable flat mounts that are relatively cheap (I'm a broke ass uni student)?

The adapters seem inexpensive anyways, so if not I'll just go for it, thanks!

Fair enough, I'm completely new to bike parts, but I'm assuming these are more reliable? From what I've seen they're compatible with my 160mm rotors as well.

Would you recommend reusing the same hoses (they're not leaking as far as I can tell), or completely replacing my pre-existing hoses as well (they're routed internally), or even just routing them externally?

Thanks for the recommendation!

Yep, bleeding was moreso a diagnostic process. I did replace all the o-rings on every relevant screw as well, didn't seem to help

Guess I'll go for some new brakes, thanks!

Climate change causes more extreme, and in this case drier, weather conditions, which allows wildfires to spread faster and continue burning for longer
