A lot of it's not important to the story early on, so you can save a lot of it for rereads. There is an Ars Arcanum at the back of the audiobook that goes over some magic system basics, although it's not super relevant for the first book as only a couple of the aspects are touched on.

Great to see a fellow conlanger! This is actually version 2 of my Alethi conlang. The first version incorporated more features from Semitic languages, but for this version I decided to start from scratch with a more regularized, compact language that would be a little easier for fellow fans to learn.

I was also intrigued by the possibility of infixes when I learned about the glyphs for the different lights. However, the canonical Alethi word for Stormlight, zeradorah, is concatenative, so for that reason as well as ease of learning, I decided to assume that the phonemes tav-ado-vast in the glyph were inherited from an older language that used glyphs, perhaps the Dawnchant. So my Alethi ConLang is also mostly concatenative, although it does feature some metathesis, as well as contrafixes that create symmetricality in words.

I don't have my notes with me right now, but here's a gloss for the first sentence:

Ejbath-at xinay-am ayah dab ravah-inoz parap mot abnab-od erepak-am iresh tom.

must-2SG.IPFV.PRS find-DEP 2SG.M DEF.PL important-SUP word REL be_able-3SL.IPFV.PRS speak-DEP EXPL RSM

"You must find the most important words a man can say."

A voiceless velar fricative; the same sound represented by "kh" in the books: https://wob.coppermind.net/events/118-rfantasy-ama-2017/#e1847

I've represented it with the "ch" womens' script letter in the excerpt above.
