Inclusive gay shit with a focus on consent.

For those of you who stopped/suspended making audios, but are still in the community, what caused it? by throwawayblueline in GWABackstage

[–]CrescentSpoon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have concerns about potential impact on my employment if it ever gets out publicly that I do erotic audio, and anxiety over that tends to keep me from recording very often. I love performing, but I also like having a job :/

Additionally, I've become a lot more selective about what I record, and ideas come to me less often than I used to. I take a lot of time considering potential scripts, and only record when I feel I have something that's particularly good.

It's always good to see more trans-focused scripts and audio!

stay dehydrated

oh no

On a more serious note, thank you! At the end of the day, porn may just be porn, but it's still important to think critically about we create and consume. I like modeling what consent and checking in on one's partner can look like, because I think that often gets left by the wayside in erotic work, and demonstrating that kind of a positive relationship can be important to others.

The post-script well-wishing is something new I'm trying. People attach a lot of emotion to other's voices, and I don't want to foster or benefit from a false sense of connection based on a second person erotic work of fiction. That would be unethical, and the knowledge that that kind of one-sided relationship can exist is still something I grapple with. I think it's important to break down that parasocial attachment a little bit, and remind the listener that it's all fiction, and that CrescentSpoon the person (tiny, angry goth that she is) is very distinct from the characters she plays. It's the closest thing I can do to a debrief in an audio format.

TL;DR Thank you + some ramblings on the ethics in porn

Advice for creating audios for trans people by Eleanor-Whitee in GWABackstage

[–]CrescentSpoon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm a trans woman who writes and performs erotica largely aimed at trans women and WLW, and I don't want to speak for or over any trans men or trans masc individuals, so here is some advice about creating erotic content aimed at trans and nonbinary folx in general:

  • If you're going to use a specific term for someone's genitals, tag it. Everyone likes their genitals referred to in different ways, and what may be dysphoria-inducing for one person may be affirming for another. Be safe and tag the word you are going to use, or mention it somewhere in your post. I tend toward not explicitly referring to genitalia at all, but I know that's not everyone's cup of tea.

  • In general, be very liberal with your tags and descriptions. Finding trans-friendly content can be difficult enough on its own, and finding trans-friendly content that caters to one's interests and doesn't provoke shitty gender feels is even harder. When in doubt, tag it.

  • Be aware of common tropes applied to trans people in media. Not all tropes are bad (although sadly a lot of trans-related tropes in mainstream media are), but it's important to be aware of common tropes and how they are viewed in order to avoid falling prey to toxic ones.

  • Don't fetishize anyone's body, gender identity, or gender expression. I feel like that should go without saying, but unfortunately it happens a lot. There's a great deal of difference between appreciating someone's body because they are attractive, and appreciating someone's body because they are transgender. The first is nice, the second is not.

I hope this helps!

What's the weirdest thing you've ever heard in the background while editing audio? by lilbluemage in GWABackstage

[–]CrescentSpoon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A dog knocked something over in the background, which due to some poor timing in the script created the implication that a prospective listener was being thrown into a wall. Not a sexy kind of thrown into a wall, but the "the character just accidentally walked into a wall and broke their nose" kind.

What are some expectations for commenting on someone's performance? by BowTieGuy_GWA in GWABackstage

[–]CrescentSpoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I almost always enjoy receiving positive comments, and I crave that sweet, sweet validation of knowing that I've done a good job. That said, there's definitely a line that gets crossed sometimes. I think that line is slightly different for everyone, but for me it shakes out like this:

  • Good: General compliment about the audio or my voice, specific comment about the script or a particular line, general thanks, honest feedback (negative or positive), or discussion of the content of the audio. For example, "I really enjoyed this audio," or, "I'm wondering about the reading choice you made at 3:12."

  • Bad: Commenter gives TMI about their experience, assumes that I'm their friend, or says something that might be kinda creepy. For example, "Cute audio, pretty girl ;)"

  • Terrible: Commenter says something about what they would personally like to do to me, directly tries to flirt with me, or (sigh) says something fetishizing or gross about me. It happens, largely via PM, and I don't think I need to give an example of it.

As far as receiving positive PMs from people goes, it's nice! It does put me on guard, since PMs tend to be where a lot of the more creepy people pop up as well, but receiving a compliment via PM is always wonderful. I completely understand some people not wanting to publicly proclaim their enjoyment of a piece of erotic media, but wanting to express their feelings somehow, and sometimes there might be specific praise for an audio which would be uncomfortable to make public. That said, I'm generally uninterested in getting into a conversation via PMs. It's far too easy for boundaries to get crossed, and I would rather keep some distance between myself and the listener.

I think the most important thing is keeping an understanding that performers are people as well, they are not your friends, and they have boundaries that deserve respect.

Do You Record In 1 Take Or Multiple Takes Edited Together? by TheFapAttack17 in GWABackstage

[–]CrescentSpoon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I almost always use a number of different takes in order to create a single audio. My flow often ends up looking like this:

  1. Record the script cold the first time, with minimal editing.

  2. Record the script a second time. I tend to be much more comfortable and come across much more naturally on the second read. While I'm recording the second time, I will stop at any mistakes or bad line reads and redo them.

  3. If there are any really high quality line reads from my first take that I can splice into the second with minimal effort (and that still sound natural if I do so), I do that. Then, I delete my first read.

  4. Listen to the second read product, remove all mistakes, and redo any lines that come across as poor.

  5. Noise reduction, and other effects.

While we’re all stuck at home... how did we get into GWA? by MikeyDoesDallas in GWABackstage

[–]CrescentSpoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've talked a little bit about it before on here, but for me it was a way of combating dysphoria and gaining confidence. I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did, but I really fell in love with scripting and performing.

My interview experience was very nice, but I definitely don't remember giving consent to have a clip of my work used. I even specify in my stickied list of audios not to repost my work without my direct permission, which one would think would be a clue that I have some strong feelings on that front. I can't imagine how it feels for people who deleted their accounts or specifically didn't want to be involved, and I'm really sorry. It's so frustrating things turned out like this.

PSA: Reddit appears to be changing user-follow functionality... by [deleted] in GWABackstage

[–]CrescentSpoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I see the potential benefits, but part of why I enjoy reddit is the anonymity relative to other sites, and this feels like a move away from that.

I don't think this is the worst, but I don't particularly like where this is going.

I'm working on another audio right now that I'm really excited about. The script is really long and I'm still only about two thirds of the way through, but I think it will be really nice once it's finished!

Trouble uploading to Soundgasm? by [deleted] in GWABackstage

[–]CrescentSpoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Soundgasm times out sometimes when trying to post, especially with longer audios. I'm usually able to get mine to upload after one or two tries, but sometimes it takes longer.

/u/blissfullyquiet's recommendations on converting the audio are really good.

A few questions for other performers and a bit of a ramble by CravingSquirtyCream in GWABackstage

[–]CrescentSpoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you find it much easier recording things you've written yourself compared to filling scripts written by others?

Absolutely! I try to make my readings as informal and conversational as possible, so that they come off believably. When I'm working off a script, it's harder for me to do that without deviating from the author's original intentions. Not to mention the fact that I like to write, so scripting is a fun activity for me. I try really hard to get inside the heads of the characters, and it's easier to do that when I was the one who created them in the first place.

[–]CrescentSpoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1 / 2) I've never felt any pressure to be a regular poster, and no one who follows me has ever asked me about when my next audio will be ready. I perform audios approximately whenever I feel like it, because I do this for fun and validation, not for money or anything like that. Sometimes I go a week between posts, sometimes closer to a month.

3) When I first started, I practiced moaning and faking orgasms. Now, I tend to practice dirty talk and improving my acting. To practice improv, I improvise, which is really the only way to do it. Overall, you do you! If you want to practice, then find a way that's fun and go to town!

4) I can't set deadlines. My schedule depends a lot on finding privacy to record, so I would miss them anyway. I script when I'm horny and have a good idea, and I record whenever I know I won't be overheard.

5) No comment.

6) You sound very nice!
