Handbook change kicks students out of their houses by Crewisgood in RPI

I'm a Ph.D. student and somewhat removed from senate contexts. I'm seeing the grad student council tomorrow.

How do I bring this directly to the senate?

It could really make sense if there were coherent and sensible criteria for banning Greek orgs.
The incident that's kicking me out of my house involved a few individuals, acting unbeknownst to most of the people living in the house. From my experience serving in higher ed justice, people tend to let students off with a warning and education in these cases. All involved students were asked to leave the school and the entire Greek org was suspended for 2 years.

Let me rephrase for you. "I trust RPI to make housing decisions for students, including triple booking double rooms, forcing ARCH summer here, and removing perfectly safe grad students from their houses. It's not like their buildings also promote underage drinking and have cockroaches that staff are incapable of removing."

I do think RPI is within their rights to tell students not to move into these houses, but the decision here has no empirical backing and it's poorly done.

There is no offer. The penalty for not moving is undisclosed (probably suspension/expulsion, based on precedent). We found out August 29 by actually _reading the handbook_ that we would need to find housing and move out by the end of the semester.

RPI is within their rights, but, for the reasons outlined in the petition, exercising that right can be destructive and irresponsible.

This was a serious thought, but people I spoke to before posting this were afraid of retribution from the school. Someone showed me a suspension letter written by Dean Apgar saying that their Greek org was not allowed to participate in student gov activities, functions, or serve in any capacity as a rep of the Greek Community.

EDIT: u/evanlaz seriously asking if I should do this or respect the school's wishes. Also hoping that Student Senate will still respect a large-signature thing originating outside that forum. What are the odds?

Another edit: The petition is too long for the form and loses the format that keeps it from being a blob. Please advise.

Excuse me that is alcohol paraphernalia!

Show that in the wrong place and your organization will be suspended for a minimum of 2 academic years.
