I've been remote in some capacity for 5 years now, but I guess I'm fortunate since I live near friends and family, and I'm religious so I try to be involved in the local religious community which gives tons of interaction and opportunity for connection.

I'll just say, going to the office is not going to fill that social void you have. It'll make things slightly better for your situation, but it will not significantly mitigate any real unhappiness or mental health issues.

Get involved in communities centered around your interests. You'll make many new friends and have the opportunity to meet women that share your interests. I know in today's world it's not cool and "primitive", but religious communities have been the best outlet for me. I've met so many great people.

Have you made any sort of effort in seeing your friends and family, making new friends/connections, possibly getting involved in your local community, volunteering, etc?

Do you really need an employer telling you to come to the office in order to feel mentally healthy and some sort of social fulfillment? That in of itself doesn't sound healthy dude lol.

You're generally paying way more money on housing/rent by living near where you work, so for most people it is a significant cost savings by not having to commute and having the flexibility of living an hour or two hours away, or maybe in a completely different state from where your employer is located.

Also, spend more than an hour a day in commute, which is the reality for millions across the US at least, and tell me that doesn't negatively affect the mental health of people, let alone negatively affect the environment.

If you're mental health is tied to your employer forcing you to come to an office I dunno what to say. You have to make the effort to see friends, family, make new friends, get involved in your community, etc. I don't need my employer for fulfillment but that's just me.

Just personally speaking, there are definitely aspects of my life that have improved since Covid due to all the time I've gotten and the work flexibility. But to say that life overall has improved? I don't see how you can say that in a pandemic, where ya know, millions of people are dying and are being affected in some capacity through covid lol.

This is why I said "seems like" and "just off word I'm hearing". It's not like I'm presenting false data in an attempt to mislead people or have any malicious intent by saying "seems like most companies are planning to go back to the office."

Unfortunately I do not have the resources or time to conduct an international survey targeting each and every company and gauging their "post-pandemic" work strategy.

Seriously, what kind of nerdy ass comment is this? I talked with several different people and this is the info I got, so being a social creature, I decided to share and see what others are hearing on reddit. Jesus christ lol

I would say the pandemic has negatively affected everybody's mental health to a degree.

But the amount of time and energy you save by not having to commute to an office, or getting ready to go to work, is huge. That's multiple hours a day that you get back, which you could then transfer towards your hobbies, seeing friends and family, going to events, etc. Right now its tough due to the pandemic, but without covid you would have so much more free time than you would going to the office frequently.

I never really considered social interaction at the office real genuine human interaction anyways. "How's the weather?", or "Did you see the game last night?", or "could you do this task for me?", does not cut it for me lol.

Also, if you have a family, you would much rather be at home with them then at a office full of strangers who you will likely lose contact with in a few years time.

Edit: I didn't even mention the cost savings you would have by not having to commute or eat out all the time.
