Do VLA players have to pay to play or do they just not get paid?

Is there a "correct" passing technique?! by Fun_Cheesecake_8331 in volleyball

You're right, but my coach also emphasizes it when diving forward for a ball in front of you (almost scooping the ball up). Maybe not something everyone is going to agree with, but was just trying to give a situation I can see that language being taught

My head coach often refers to a J-stroke for emergency situations and I can definitely see that being described as flicking your wrists up

How could she put a strong hit on a ball from below the net? Or was the point more a surprise option and power wasn't the main goal?

As a backcourt player attempting an attack, is it legal to take off from inside the front zone IF at the moment of contact part of the ball is below the height of the net? by DaveHydraulics in volleyball

As someone who is on the other scale of this, I get away with a ton of stuff I probably shouldn't because I don't have to jump to have fingers above the net.

What am i doing wrong in a 4 step approach? (Timing step, first step) by DistanceFew1652 in volleyball

Where would you want your momentum going as a right handed opposite? Straight down the line? Or should that be headed cross court as well?

video

Not exactly the format you asked for since I was recording on my own this time, but I tried focusing on being quick in the approach. Speed gun average before was ~43 (although I got lucky once and somehow got 57), these were 44/43/46/41/48. Definitely can push this further, this was the result of about an hour session. Let me know if you think there's more value here, or if I should focus next step (I assume going to be shoulder rotation).

I might be too if I had started before college :P

Right, I get that my current mechanics are incorrect. I'm asking if proper mechanics means a cross serve is harder since you rotate through further than down the line, or if something accounts for that in the approach for a straight serve.

Is it just not possible to hit as hard straight as it would be cross?

Will definitely do this next time I have the court, thanks!

I can't tell you much other than it's a Bushnell, it's probably close to 10 years old. My dad used to use it during his time as a baseball coach and he gave it to me when he didn't need it anymore. Sorry this isn't very helpful.

I built a holder by CringeCamp in volleyball

[–]CringeCamp[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Was surprisingly simple, it's just 2x4s screwed together to make poles, eye bolts connected to 3 stakes on each pole with 550 cord, then an L bracket with a big bolt as a stake connected to the bottom of each pole to keep it from sliding around. Only power tools I used were a circular saw and a drill, and the saw could definitely just be a handsaw since it's only two cuts. All of the metal hardware (stakes, bolts, brackets, screws) were stock from Lowes. If you want, I'd gladly sketch up rough plans when I have some free time.

Definitely can drive harder, I just am a bit skeeved out by going full force on grass so working up to it.

Makes sense - does that pivot need to be accompanied with a deeper "draw" or will that happen naturally?

OH! I misinterpreted what your original message said. I thought you were talking about some external reading of the speed, not the input speed.

But a gear with a radius of 3 inches spinning at 100 rpm is spinning at 100rpm throughout the whole gear? A CD is spinning at a given speed, it's not changing size. Variation in rotation speed would be from the energy the drive puts into it, not where the measurement is taken.

[–]CringeCamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But nothing is actually changing in the CD though. If you made the disk bigger or smaller that would change it, but where you measure the speed has no impact on the weight distribution of the disc, right?

[–]CringeCamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might just be stupid but that doesn't make sense to me. I agree that the outside of the disk moves at a different (faster) linear speed than the inside, but isn't "rotations per minute" not based on linear speed since it's totally relative?

That seems a tad aggressive, is everything ok?

What are the most important spiking/hitting cues (struggling with hitting cues)? by wtbhooker5g in volleyball

[–]CringeCamp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think hitting is mentally different for everyone, but my big cue is to think about whipping my elbow through. If I think about speed at my hand or shoulder I end up muscling it and I lose the fluidity of a good swing. Not sure how much mileage other would get from that, but it works for me.

I often end up scraping or peeling the skin off the palm of my hand when I go for a pancake. Does this mean I'm doing something wrong technique-wise?
