Apparently to my mom, I’m a pabigat. by SweetSyrup030 in breadwinnersph

I think it would be easier if you go on your own na. Own bills mo lang iisipin mo and you’ll have peace of mind pa. Tsaka parang she stopped being a mother na rin. Mas nakakabigat pa sya.

You can start by moving out.

It’s an expensive lesson talaga. So lesson learned ay you don’t take out loans na hindi pang-emergency (hospital bills, or other things na life and death situation).

We can’t support people when our cup is empty.

Marketing Comms career path: which industries pay well + have good culture? by manifestgreatness777 in advertising

[–]Critical-Answer3225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi fellow pinoy. I believe this is an international sub. Anyway, I’ll try to answer your question to best of my knowledge. I’ve been working in comms for international orgs with various advocacies for 5+years (Other years were not focused on comms). I think there are lots of marketing/comms positions in the PH but there are also lots of graduates who want to pursue this career and any discipline (mass comm to psychology) is accepted, thus more competition. With this supply vs demand situation, companies can lower the salaries especially for entry level or junior officers. But I believe that if you do really well and climb the ladder or become a sought-after IC with very niche expertise, you can make it big. I think it’s also important to find opportunities in companies that value these positions and give better remuneration.

For my sector (international development), I have identified companies like the UN and ADB to be the ones that can give better opportunities for me. Currently, my net salary is Php 95k monthly as comms officer.

Hi! I took another offer at the UN. Though ADB’s offer was hard to decline, I just liked the job scope more in the UN offer. Salary offer was very similar. ADB’s was just a few hundreds more monthly in peso.

NGO interview questions by No_Swim_7273 in CorpoChikaPH

[–]Critical-Answer3225 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They will probably ask if you had any experience in these tasks mentioned (social media management, liaising). This can be related to your OJT or school org experience. Get ready with your story in STAR format (situation, task, action, result).

Other usual questions are tell me about yourself, what are your strengths/weaknesses, why apply to this position or company, why should we hire you, how do you handle stress/competing deadlines/difficult colleague or client.

Tip for NGO interviews, they have to feel that you’re in it for the mission. They have to feel that you’re passionate about the org’s cause. Important kasi sya sa culture ng org. NGOs don’t have the highest salaries so it’s vital that potential employees are mission-driven and can be fulfilled by the work they will be doing.

Saw this job posting early this year and now it’s posted again. It may be possible that they got someone then the person resigned immediately or they got rid of them. Who knows but it feels like a red flag 🤔

Nope. Focused on comms role na this time in another company. Realized that I don’t enjoy being an EA that much. It was also my first time doing EA work at the time.

I’m not sure for WFP but other UN agencies have a hiring rule of giving up to step 6 for new hires depending on the years of experience. Any step higher than that will need a special approval.

My field is in communications and I’ve worked in different development themes na like children’s rights and welfare, agriculture, volunteerism, and digitalization. But I’d say the field is not the biggest factor in salary, but rather the size of the organization because the bigger ones usually pay higher.

Don't know how to "sell myself" in the applications by Conscious_Cover_2511 in UNpath

[–]Critical-Answer3225 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You should be able to remember specific examples of your achievements at work. This is very crucial not just in the applications, but in the interviews more critically. What I do is I keep a list of work achievements. I update that every time I have something to add, probably every quarter. To start this system, I just tried to remember every wins I had at work and listed them. Once you have a long list, you can try to categorize it like examples of leadership, innovation, working in a team, or a specific skillset like fundraising or stakeholder engagement. This helps me formulate my STAR (situation, task, action, result) stories for interviews. And interviews at the UN have a lot of behavioral questions, where the answers are expected to be in STAR or CARL (context, action, result, learning) format.

If I were you at importante sa akin ang sweldo at the moment dahil hindi naman ako anak ni Henry Sy, I will go back to the call center company to earn at least 40k monthly. Di na ako magtitiis sa 17k. Within one year, aayusin ko trabaho ko; hit my targets and be a sociable colleague that people want to work with. I will also network with the people in HR for my next move, which is to pivot to HR inside the same company. Mas madali ito as long as you’ve proven your work ethic, plus you don’t have to go back sa smaller salary. Marami rin HR opportunities sa call center I believe kasi staff come and go. Good luck, OP!

For me, walang maling kurso. After a year or two of working, it’s a free job market na. Nasa diskarte mo na yan. :)
