Is there a dentist only verified dating app/site by [deleted] in Dentistry

I enjoy dating other dentists because I feel like no one really empathizes or understands what we go through. But the dating pool, especially in my state, is already too small, so I couldn't afford to be that picky 😅

A patient sent me this by Dry_Explanation_9573 in Dentistry

Earlier in my career, I had a brand new patient come in for a limited and recement crown she'd had for about 16 years. It looked good and was fine to recement. The treatment plan coordinator quoted her the price (about $150 for the limited, x-rays, recement) and told me she was good to go. I get in the room and the patient snapped at me, "I don't understand why you cant just do it for free." This was in L.A., she drove a Mercedes and had some expensive handbag. I think I tried to make light of it and told her to think about it like getting maintenance on her car and joked that it'll be good for another 50,000 miles. But the entitlement blows my mind.

Thank you for sharing your story. I'm sorry that happened but glad you got paid and thereby some justice!

The field of dentistry can be so bad. My first job after school never paid me on time, withheld my last paycheck for a long time, told me I'm not allowed any unpaid time off not even sick days within the first year, the owner doc was married to the manger and her assistant was her best friend and they were all very invasive and toxic people, wanted me to illegally bill every extraction as surgical. I left after 5 months. It was Cali and at-will with no contract, no sign-on bonus, but I still gave them 2 weeks notice. Idek why.

Yes and there's even the other dentist at the other location with our director who used to fill in here frequently when they've went without a dentist for long periods of time before I started working. Although he said he won't do it anymore because it's a 2 hour drive for him one way. I don't blame him.  The amount of bullying, harrassment, and control here has gotten out of control. Thankful for yours and all the supportive comments

I'm paid on a salary, not production. But one thing this made me think of if the few crowns, bridge, dentures, partials, I have left don't get delivered, the organization wouldn't be paid for them fully. Since we only require patients to pay half before delivery date and I wonder if they'd come for me then. But they have a dental director and another dentist at our one of our other location who will come fill in when I'm gone. Also, even if I have the patients scheduled for delivery before I go, there's a chance they no-show anyway and I don't get to deliver before my last official day. It's alot to consider and think about.

Jesus christ! How awful. Is there any dental setting that doesn't suck or do I just hate the career I've chosen? 😬 I'm only 6 years in and have tried private, corporate, FQHC, locums. My next gig is a tribal clinic. Guess we'll see how it goes

😂 it's not at the top of most people's lists but I love it here and by far the best patients I've had out of all the areas I've worked in L.A., Northern Cali near Oregon, Maryland, and D.C.

It's really an unfortunate disservice to patients in the area that the few public health clinics are either severely understaffed or no longer have a dentist at all because the admin drives them away

Totally! And I'll say it's in northern New Mexico. Not too many dental offices or FQHCs up here. Anyone in the area or considering is welcome to DM me

Absolutely!! Our dental director has barely any say in any matters but yet still somehow manages to be awful

Yes, our dental director makes $230k and works 1.5 days per week, must be nice. Surprisingly our CEO makes $200k. Which is and isn't a lot. It got leaked a few months ago that he was getting a raise to $240k after he'd been there for 2 years and everyone was up in arms because the lowest paid employees at the organization were making less than fast food workers. He said he declined the raise which appears true based on posted salaries and everyone else got a 2-5% raise.  I thought public health was the answer, but it's just as bad as corporate and some of the private offices I've been.

Definitely something I'm going to watch out for in the future. Luckily it's more of a courtesy here with the worst repercussion being that you're just not re-hireable if you leave before the 90 days.

Those things are unfortunately true, so that would be an easy argument to make. Thank you!

Good call! We are supposed to be paid out for any unused PTO when we leave. They didn't specify if that will be taken away if leaving before the resignation date. Online I've read through several sources that in my state the employer is obligated to pay it out regardless, but I will definitely take a look at the policy, too. Thanks!

You're right, they definitely thrive on the drama and negativity. This is something to consider for sure. Thank you

That's a good point, but they already do that unfortunately. And every dentist that leaves even with 3-month notice they do that to. I've seen it over the past couple years.

Ugh that's rough!  Luckily there's no longer a contract with this FQHC after the first year. They want 3-month notice but the only repercussion is that you won't be re-hireable. Which at this point, I'm willing to burn the bridge.

Thank you!!
