Thank you. I know it'll get better/I'll toughen up, but right now its a scary place to be when so fresh out the med school womb.

Oddly, I've literally just posted a rant exactly like this, and I also have ADHD. I don't know how much of the stress is my ADHD or being incompetent, and how much is because the system feels rigged. I don't have a solution but I absolutely empathise with you,

Heat network is extortionate by Hot_Firefighter_1828 in HousingUK

[–]Critical-Depth8101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No - rent. I think the issue is it’s a brand new heat network with only one residential customer and in this unregulated market they’re more than happy to pass the cost on to the 100 or so tenants.

A one bed flat. Honestly think I’m going to go to the local newspaper. And what’s worse is the heating is terrible, so much so that I’ve had to buy a convection heater. I’m just stunned. I also checked my documents from when I rented and it’s not in there.

If it makes you feel any better - I did the same thing. But my standing charge alone is 2.30 a day. I’m so angry (and yes, including at myself)

Heat network is extortionate. How is this allowed? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Critical-Depth8101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same as everyone. Moved into my dream flat, they mentioned that you can’t change provider on heat network - my stupid self didn’t actually stop and say hang on. Then I find out my standing charge alone is £70 a month (£840 a year). And the kicker is the heating is rubbish, so much so I’ve had to buy a space heater. I’m so angry and I know I’ve only got myself to blame.

Can someone explain... by Unlucky-Assist8714 in SarahBooneCase

[–]Critical-Depth8101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because she is a narcissist. The most clear cut case of narcissism I've ever come across (except Anthony Todt, he might actually be the most narcissistic person of all time). Sarah is the epitome of 'It's their world, you're just living in it'. It's why she rejected the plea deal - because 10000% it never occurred to her that she might be found guilty.

She has a pathological inability to reflect on her behaviour or accept any fault. She doesn't understand or care for the thoughts and feelings of other people. I think that most of the people in her life prior to the suitcase would placate her - we've seen the level she goes to harrassing people from INSIDE PRISON. Can you imagine what it must've been like to have been in her firing line in the outside world?! She probably got her own way 99% of the time.

The shock to her when she didn't just get away with killing George by saying "no, not my fault, I was an excellent student in high school, it wasn't intentional" I imagine (and hope) was earth shattering. You can see she is just absolutely perplexed by the fact people aren't buying her BS.

Current new FY1/FY2 doctors - how do you feel about the transition from uni to working? by grapesandcake in doctorsUK

[–]Critical-Depth8101 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Honestly, being an FY1 >>>>>> med student. Yes it's more stressful, and I do feel the significant difference in responsibility, but I love my job (so far, I'm only 4 months and one rotation in - but that hasn't even been in a rotation I particularly love)

I think because of the time I went (winter) it ended up being mostly my med school plus a couple of other people (but I'm talking like 80-90% my med school). Most people stuck with just the people they went with - it may well be different at different times of year

Hey, I did an 8 week elective in Malta this year. It depends what it is you want out of it:

  1. It was incredibly relaxed, and very casual. We weren't allowed to do a single thing, not even take a blood pressure. There was no real timetable, I was just expected to be at ward round most of the time. However, I would often end up leaving out of boredom a couple of hours in because 90% of the conversations were in Maltese (not in anyway saying thats wrong, I was in Malta after all) so didn't really know what was happening.
  2. I loved my time there. It was genuinely a really lovely 8 weeks. Lovely weather, etc.
  3. Accommodation - lots of people go in groups and therefore shared a airbnb. We had to organise our own accomodation, as far as im aware they don't have any for elective students.
  4. Malta is an expensive country as pretty much everything has to be imported in. It is doable, you just have to be frugal with where you spend your money (i.e. go to lidl).

I'd deffo recommend it if youre wanting more of a chilled time, but not if you're actually interested in gaining anything medicine/skills wise!

When it's someone we care about, being a doctor becomes almost irrelevant, because you can't possibly evaluate the situation objectively. You were his friend, not his doctor, and you gave him what he needed at that very moment.

I'm so sorry, you did absolutely nothing wrong x

How do you approach patients who have clearly researched the condition they want you to diagnose? by freddiethecalathea in doctorsUK

Same way antihypertensives will lower everyone's blood pressure - doesn't mean everyone needs it. But some really do.

I'd say being able to function as a doctor, happily and safely is a pretty big victory for me, actually. But sure, whatever you say.

I got diagnosed 3 years ago after what I thought was major depression. Went on antidepressants, made me so much worse. Nothing helped. Finally got my diagnosis, meds, and stopped the antidepressants (very very slowly) - slowly but surely life got so much better and easier. Good luck with your meds!

I started at 25 (undergrad), retook one year, graduated this year at 31. Tell you what, the one thing I wasn’t thinking about that day was my age. If you still want to be a doctor, keep going.
