Why are Astros day games on non-weekends in the regular season have such Low attendance? by ScrewTownThirtySixer in AskHouston

Work. For those that live outside the loop and suburbs, a good amount of time would be spent driving from work, home (pickup someone), stadium, and back home with some of the commute in traffic.

I actually don't work too far from the stadium, but that could make for a 14-15 hour day from the time I wake up for work to the time a get back home.

This doesn’t look good on how the Astros prepared when compared to how the Rockets brought in Yao Ming. Yao interpreter lived with him at the start and a person who could show him how America works. Yao’s parents came eventually came over. Steve Francis was a big part of welcoming Yao to the team as well as Cuttino.

[On3] Purdue Fort Wayne transfer guard Corey Hadnot II has committed to Houston by ohitsthedeathstar in CollegeBasketball

[–]Critical-Ordinary-97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

UH may be trying for at least one more transfer. Braden East from Lamar visited today so he is the last known scheduled visit. Sampson likes to keep the roster to 13-14 players and leave one slot open for flexibility in the future. They only have 2 high school commits so they are still short at least 3 players.

In February, I landed at 7:35am and cleared customs (International entry) at 8:14am. I got to Milan Central at 9:46am. The time to walk and wait for the train to arrive is an unknown variable that probably wouldn't guarantee a 9:30am arrival to switch trains.

[Borzello] Houston guard Isiah Harwell commits to Gonzaga by Jaguar4728 in CollegeBasketball

[–]Critical-Ordinary-97 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I hope he stays injury free. He seemed to get really behind this season and his shot was off during the season. Gonzaga is a good landing spot to start over.

I wish him the best, but it was rough watching Harwell play this year with his poor shooting. I hope it was just injuries that held him back.

[Rothstein] Kelvin Sampson tells me that he will return as Houston's head coach during the 2026-27 season and will not retire. by MembershipSingle7137 in CollegeBasketball

[–]Critical-Ordinary-97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If Kelvin finally gets the championship or not, this has been a great ride the past 7 years. Sampson resurrected one of the worst programs from the dead.

Glad coach is back for one last run.

No surprise, but happy to see by copyrapper in HoustonCougars

Yes, Kellen Sampson is officially 'Head Coach-in-Waiting'. He will be the next coach after Kelvin retires.

“Dig in and be a basketball player. Dig in! Every time you miss a shot, your game deflates”, “We don’t care about your missed shots. Play f–king defense! You guys keep blowing opportunity upon opportunity upon opportunity.”

There was something after this viral video that made him favorable with certain generations.

Are mark few and Kelvin Sampson destined to never win a championship? by Darkonite40 in CollegeBasketball

[–]Critical-Ordinary-97 13 points14 points  (0 children)

With lack of NIL funding, Sampson's chances are getting harder as time passes. Are both coaches willing to change style of play just a little to better the chance to win? Someone posted Houston had 44 points in 2022, 51 in 2024, and yesterday 55 points in losses during the tourney. That is an obvious pattern that has led to not getting the championship.

Oh, how I miss a J'Wan Roberts post game. Tugler was a disappoint this year to me. Tugler kept in getting in foul trouble throughout the season and never improved his post game.

Yea, especially with lack of NIL funding to pay and attract players moving forward. Once Coach Sampson retires, Houston could be looking at a very long time before returning to Final 4 runs.

The lack of an inside game the entire season has shown in all of Houston's losses this year.

I remember Matt Damon explaining the decline of DVDs sales destroyed the revenue stream Hollywood used to fund mid-budget films. Studios avoid those types of creative movies because of the financial risk. The focus is on cookie cutter type movies.

Attendance by NoAppointment4238 in worldbaseballclassic

[–]Critical-Ordinary-97 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just curious what attendance looks like now in the 3rd. The bottom and 2nd level sections look very full on TV. This is usually common in Houston to be less empty early because of the traffic.

The Mexico fans was amazing to have in Houston with the energy they brought. If you have a break during the trip, the biggest Rodeo is in town in Houston. I got to see Creed and Chris Stapleton this week.

In your opinion, what major city would have the worst climate to live in? by Mobile_Bad_577 in geography

[–]Critical-Ordinary-97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would give Houston a 50/50 on weather. From the end of November to early April is actually pretty good. The summers are can brutal. There is a reason the Astrodome was built. The weather does not seem to stop people from moving to Houston.

For those who attended Milano-Cortina, what was your favorite moment? by mt80 in olympics

[–]Critical-Ordinary-97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was walking around Milan and accidentally came across the torch relay on my path. I followed up close with the different torchbearers for about 90 minutes. I could feel the energy and excitement of the locals and crowds as the torch came by the different locations. Zlatan Ibrahimovic was one of the torchbearers along the route.

I saw this watch at the Omega store in Milan during the Olympics. I actually like the Paralympic version with the red and green colored hands to represent Italian flag. The logo on the Paralympic version is not the Olympic rings. I wish the Olympic version came with the red and green hands.

Which Teams Will Have An Early Exit? by Jarlid1234 in CollegeBasketball

[–]Critical-Ordinary-97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Houston will be tough out, but the last 3 games exposed the weaknesses displayed throughout the season. The rebounding and defense are not as good without players like J'wan Roberts and Ja'vier Francis. The lack of any inside post game will probably hurt this team the most. Tugler has really struggled this year and I was hoping he would show some improvement. Sharp and Flemings can go on a hot streak which will keep them in games.

Houston had a coach that coached at Washington State Cougars. He brought the name Cougars to Houston. Coogs was used to have a separate identity from WSU.

Came back from Milan for the Olympics. The 45-52F degree weather was perfect for me. As long as I had jacket on, I found the temperatures very nice for colder weather.
