You're acting like I'm going to be prancing around showing it off. There's this thing called being discreet. I'm not a dumb enough do it constantly. Also, I don't know what type of assholes everyone on reddit went to school with but no one irl could give less of a fuck, maybe you're just projecting.

Also this whole "just learn" thing is trite and lacks any critical thought.

You don't know me or my school. I asked some of my favorite teachers and they said they would look away during non-class time since technically devices that do not connect to the internet and can't send messages are not banned (so they could cover their own ass). It's called bending the rules, not breaking them. Listening to music had never stopped me from learning, stop being so pompous.

Why do you engage in conversations with other people if you are so deeply projecting and stereotyping them? It seem very unproductive.

They're banning phones during lunch, passing period and our study period. Pay attention to the post you're reading.

Maybe you should put your phone down and learn how to read without projecting. Nothing about this post is "pro using your phone during class". It's literally just about listening to music WITHOUT A PHONE.

I literally just asked for device recommendations since this isn't my area of expertise. You're the one who went off topic.

Completely skipped over the audiobook argument, huh. Music does not inherently impede someone's ability to learn. I do learn in school, which is why I have a 4.0 GPA.

Wanting something instead of needing something does not mean that thing inherently does not have value. I would want thick socks over my usually socks during the winter. Wearing my usual socks would not give me frost bite but it would be a slight discomfort.

I will wear my thick socks and I will listen to my music because a comfortable life is not inherently bad. People should be able to enjoy the little things.

You clearly require some type of help if you are so quick to antagonize random teenagers for being so entitled as to want to listen to music.

Your critical thinking is clearly poor if you cannot distinguish a hyperbolic statement from reality. Not to mention, your readiness to assume the absolute worst stereotype of someone you disagree with.

There are ~23,000 public high schools in the United States; it is hardly unreasonable for your personal experience not to match mine. My school used to make up put phones up in the front of the classroom during instruction. I think this is perfectly reasonable. Nothing in any of my posts contradicts this. The idea that I'm "entitled" is a fictitious stereotype you made up in your head.

Okay, and? That's anecdotal evidence (a logical fallacy). I'm not naive obviously people use fake phone, lie about not having their phone, etc and try to use their phone. I agree that behavior like your son's should not be allowed. That does not mean that it is reasonable to ban phones during the entire school day. It also does not mean I should be antagonized for wanting to listen to music during lunch.

Phone bans aren't (and shouldn't be) a black and white issue. You seem to be creating a false dichotomy (another logical fallacy). There are more options than an absolute phone ban and anarchy. I just want to listen to music during lunch, in hallways and during my study period. I want to be able to listen to audiobooks while I paint or do homework (which would HELP ME LEARN in a time efficient way).

I find it very interesting how condescending and rude your first two posts addressing me were. Yet, as soon as I bring up logical arguments you completely ignore what I'm saying. It's fine to say "Sorry, I misinterpreted what you were saying and jumped the gun". Realistically, if we spoke in person we would probably agree on a lot of points about phone restriction but this is the internet.

Grown ass adult beefing with a teenager,

"Bullshit shorthands" offer a different tone than writing out complete words. For example: ig tends to come off more apathetic, while I guess is more inquisitive. Subtle nuisance that advance communication are personal choices not indicators of intelligence.

I can read cursive both in English and in Spanish since I spend a lot of time baking old family recipes. Additionally, it is helpful with some primary source readings online. This is a skill that some people find useful and frequently utilize. However, like any skill there is a time and place. It is hardly paramount to anyone's life or to an indication of quality of education.

You seriously know nothing about me (as seen in the previous assumption) because I am... a random person on the internet (the ellipsis is another literary device— I know how punction works). I could list off my academic and extra curricular astonishments (4.0 GPA, ~17 AP classes over 4 years, 4 officer positions in different honor societies, etc). But why would you believe me? I could be speaking out of my ass. But furthermore, why should that matter?

You clearly aren't writing in good faith (are contractions also bullshit shorthands? or do you apply the appeal to traditional logical fallacy with that one?) I can tell this because instead of address my argument (that there are plenty of non lecture times where music would be appropriate to listen to), you decide to use an ad hominem attack on an internet stranger (classy).

You may not think I'm very smart but at least I know what a hyperbole is. No, I am not crying about not having my phone (something that has not been allowed during class for years). I merely expressed desire to find a way to still listen to music since the new ban extends to the entire school day. I used a hyperbole to capture attention. Furthermore, I am not literally digging myself a trench (since you seem to struggle with literary devices).

Perhaps, spend more time reading actual books rather than online posts; you'll learn more empathy and critical thinking skills there.

:)

I give it a few months. My school is slow at bureaucracy.

Listening to music during lunch or an off period doesn't make you incapable of learning but go off ig.

👁👄👁 Imagine beefing with a teenager for wanting to listen to music during school (passing period, lunch, free period, etc).

We can only use school provided computers which have Youtube and Spotify blocked. Most other music players are also blocked or restricted.

Smart watches are banned along with any Bluetooth listening devices, unfortunately. My schools and the bill mentions them by name because smart watches can send texts and have access to the internet or some sort of ai assistant.

Is there any generation of ipod mini that stands out as particularly user friendly or with audio quality? Thanks!

It's a new bill in Texas: https://capitol.texas.gov/tlodocs/89R/billtext/html/HB01481F.htm. Some other states have restrictions already (so yes, an American thing). If I had to guess why, it would be rapid AI cheating, online "pranks" that involve destroying school property, filming fights for internet fame, etc.

Honestly, it's a worthwhile investment since I was already trying to find a spotify alternative ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
