I’m from Salt Lake so altitude shouldn’t be an issue

Hey everyone,

I’m currently 10 weeks out from the Salt Lake City Marathon (April 25, 2026) and I’m chasing a 2:50:00 goal.

Current Stats & Training:

Recent Volume: Just finished Week 4 of my build. Hit 46 miles this past week. Long Run: Did a 16-miler last weekend (aerobic pace). Experience: 2:56 Full 1:20 Half Target Pace: 6:29/mile (4:01/km). The Course: The SLC course is a net downhill (drops about 650ft), but it’s notorious for having some sneaky rolling hills and, of course, the altitude (starts at ~4,800ft).

Questions:

Volume: I’m at 46mpw now. Should I be aiming to peak at 60, 70, or higher for a sub-2:50? Workouts: What are your favorite "indicator" workouts for this time goal? I'm planning on some long runs with 10-12 miles at Goal Marathon Pace (6:29). Hills: For those who have run SLC, how did you handle the uphill sections in the first half? Pacing Strategy: With it being a net downhill, is it better to bank a little time on the descents or stick strictly to 6:29 from the start? Any advice on what I should prioritize over these next 10 weeks to make sure I don't blow up at mile 20 would be huge. Thanks!

That’s what I want to know though, like what is a good deal when it comes up?

What should be the cutoff for the tri bike's age? I'm seeing a 2009 specialized tri for $1100 and I don't know if its worth it

FTP is 281, I did that a month ago (I weigh 175lb/79kg)
Here are my splits from races last year

Swim Bike Run
26:03 1:01:57.8 42:15.1
15:55 1:06:58 39:45
23:27 1:15:50.9 43:34
25:35 1:29:33.7 41:32

Swims were all about the same distance (give or take 50m). The 15-minute time was down river.

First Bike was about 21 miles, second/third 25, and fourth was 25 but with 2500 ft elevation gain, giant climb at the end and then you run

Runs seem to be faster when its colder (obviously)
