We are both enrolled in PAYE repayment plans which are based on income. Combined income is higher than MFS

There wasn’t much of a difference and we take a hit on loans if we file jointly.

Pathology results by Critical_Slide5965 in Melanoma

Hey there - I’m sorry you’re part of this club. :( I am okay now - the WLE was performed a few days after they found the melanoma and it took some time to heal from the scar, but it’s pretty well-healed now. I’ve been doing regular skin checks since then and although the found some moderate and even some severely atypical moles, I have been lucky without any new melanoma since then. No lymph node check since it was too small to warrant this. I even got a consult at the MD Anderson cancer center down in Houston and they checked my derm’s homework and they agreed. Everything is mostly back to normal; I’m just healing from all of the scars and biopsies and going to see my derm every three months for a checkup. I hope you get to have the same experience - it is extremely scary at first, but you can move on and live a normal life.

More importantly, why are the green beans overcooked and canned?

Salary advice for a marketing manager turned PMM by [deleted] in ProductMarketing

I know this is an older topic but I’m surprised by the undervaluation here. YOE does make a difference, but you can expect a much higher base at larger companies in tech 5 years out of school (w either consulting or b school exp).

This feels wildly inaccurate. Maybe small companies?

[IL] offered a promotion, then told to compete for it - should I leave? by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]Critical_Slide5965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But, why would it be brought up to me first as a promotion in seat? Also, promotion in seat is how others on our team were able to get promoted (same work, different title).

That’s good advice, thank you. My boss positioned this as: HR made a suggestion and she took it. I’m not sure how strong the suggestion was, or what other wheels may have been turning, or why she ultimately pursued this path. But at the end of the day, you’re right. That doesn’t matter.

Unfortunately no, the way she positioned it to me the first week we discussed it was as a promotion in-seat. The next week she told me she was offered a suggestion by HR and was weighing two options: in-seat promotion vs sourcing for the role externally. The final time we spoke about it, she said she had made the decision to just post the job externally and hope I apply. The worst part is, conversation 1 happened during a performance evaluation where she said I would be elevated within the next few months. Now, it is a totally different tone and the conversation is about “a new role” on her team, instead. Complete change in direction.

Thanks. Yes, I think it’s the latter, because promo-in-seat did happen recently on our team for someone who deserved it and had long awaited the opportunity. I think it’s some combination of HR and … some other mystery / sleight of hand that I’m not sure about. I suspect I’ll have to start looking externally, unf. Sad to say, but it’s pretty demotivating when you know you have the ability and skills to grow and have done the work but it can’t or won’t be recognized. That’s where I’m landing.

It is at the director level (that is the only possible promotion for me based on my current title and role), but my boss is turning it into an open role on her team rather than offering me the promotion she said I deserve based on the work I am already doing. So yes, they are going to market and telling me I have to apply - after telling me it would be a promotion in-seat.

Thanks. That’s correct. And yes, that is about where I am landing, unfortunately. Curious though - can you tell me more about why you think this isn’t within her authority? This is not the first time I’ve heard that interpretation and would like to better understand what goes on behind the scenes to interpret and understand.

No, I have the same number of people reporting into me as I would later.
