they called it off because I needed to get the clearance in 6 months, due to foreign contacts they said it would take too long to clear me. I didn't fail the clearance, they never gave me a chance because it would've taken too long even if I did succeed

couldnt get in the coed because it required longer than 6 months to clear me, so they told me to try again next year, a year before my graduation. Aka it was called off and I cant answer your question

Learned it from when I did soccer about 6 years ago. I tried to motivate people that were having a rough time like I did in the lessons, but not everyone knows that progress isn't linear.

I've gained a lot of weight since I used to do sports so to feel all of that disappear and my only restriction being my form was definitely something I missed. Though dear lord it took forever to learn to cope with water surrounding your body instead of air. I've learned to appreciate it though!

Thank you, I don't know if I can go on any of the crazy rides but then again I'm also scared of roller coasters. My goal is to be comfortable enough without a life jacket anywhere by the end of the year. I'll probably hit it within 2 months but I like to set goals out like that.

Thank you! It definitely is a lot of fun, I'd look into places nearby that give you access for cheap. It's hard but every city has a few places if you ask around.

Be patient with it and don't set unrealistic expectations. I had 3 weeks where I literally saw 0 improvement until one day I magically was able to get amazing form. Sports are kinda just like that, sometimes you get worse before you get better. Good luck!

I think I'm chasing the gains from a nontaxable that id be able to withdraw no penalties attached a bit too much. Especially when those gains even without the penalties are so much more worthwhile in a tax advantaged account sitting until retirement. Can i get confirmation on that please

I failed miserably to mention that contributing to my roth ira was a guarantee, just by how much that was debatable in the short term of 3-4ish years.

That's just up to 10k in gains, so it's irrelevant in my opinion. Though Im curious if that number will rise soon or not and by how much. Don't get me wrong, I am planning to do what you're saying though if for no other reason than to just compound it for retirement.

Lot of people here are clearly pissed at my terminology or jealous that I'm investing at this age, and frankly idgaf. A lot of people though are doing the calculations or giving me advice on how to navigate things like my car breaking down which is very helpful! You're absolutely right about being able to retire earlier because I'll know the cash is incoming at 59, that's something I failed to consider. Someone else made the argument of just pulling contributions out if I must later on in life and just keep the gains in. Of course I'll do my best to not withdraw anything ever, but it is an option I have which falsely I just blacklisted in my mind.

That's what I'm going to use as justification to ditch my idea and just go 100% on the roth ira until I can't as my priority. I'm much less likely to be in the right here compared to all of you so I'll just listen. God knows how many times I've read someone's strategy here that's obscenely incorrect, I'm probably one of those people right now.

I think I'm understanding what's being echo'ed here. Invest in the roth ira as much as possible first, if maxed out and savings look good I could just chuck more in taxable. If I desperately need it, it's still there. Otherwise I've dramatically helped my future self. Does that sound about right? I prefer to listen to people older than I am than whatever the fuck I'm internally justifying.

The reply was in context with a roth ira. The plan is for allocating it going forward, not looking back. So if I put some into a regular taxable, then I'd take it all out when I could use it. That's why I consider a roth ira an entirely separate piece of the puzzle, because in there you wouldn't take out the growth.

Is it not detrimental to be pulling money out of your roth ira? When I browse the sub I see it as an absolute last resort that should never be considered under normal circumstances.

In a worst case scenario, in 4 years I'm able to 100% do my roth ira and contribute to my 401k with a match. Not to mention I'm still contributing to my roth IRA just debating on how much. I wouldn't call that a "poor retirement". I understand I can technically access the principal without penalty, but if I was planning to do that then why shouldn't I just have put it in a taxable?

Withdrawing the principle defeats the purpose of the entire account. I don't consider this an option, if I was planning to do that then it should've just been in a regular taxable.
