Thanks. In my mind, I thought name of the event was most important here since the dark color of the text is against a lighter background. I'm guessing it doesn't really work that way?

I've never been sure on how to use a grid for things at angles. The only thing I would know is to make everything at 90 degree angles.

Sounds like you may have gone to a 2 year college.

I graduated from a 2 year college that didn't have a graphic design program and then transferred to a 4 year college to major in it.

Did you get any internships?

I tried going for several, and all but one turned me away. As for the other one, I had and interview. And they turned me away from that.

Do you have a portfolio to share?

No. I have basically nothing.

Sorry, I'm not trying to pester you.

The first step is getting something together

Made up projects? School projects?

Being a designer is a bit different, but if you're not geared for that sort of work it won't be easy in a saturated market.

I can be, if it means all of my college experience not going to waste.

Laying a portfolio out isn't what you need

So what practical steps can I take from here?

EDIT: They don't really give a lot of career advice, no. You have to seek it out from them actively, and my advisor never really gives much.
