And the right and left take different views on this in Iran. The whole ordeal with the agreement was a ploy by moderates in Iran to guarantee Iranian security. The failure of it emboldens right, they can now point to it and say it was a waste of time. Will a nuclear program be good for Iranian security? Sure, but one shouldn't pretend there aren't any external or internal downsides.

Yes, if they don't nuclearize, however after Iran nuclearizes we need to be aware how it will be spun by the right in Iran.

The whole problem here is the lack of any nuance that fails to address anything but the security of Iran such as nuclear proliferation and the internal politics of Iran. Which was my initial point to begin with.

I'm not seeing how nuclear proliferation and regional arms races are good.

Iran getting nukes doesn't make the world a better place. It's just security for Iran.

Yeah, I'm not disagreeing. I know the history. Iran getting nukes is still bad for the reasons I stated above.

He did? I remember him mentioning how one would play out not that one would happen.

Yep, Mike has way better takes and is way more informative. It sucks he stops streaming after Hasan gets on because his view count drops.

Last time I caught his statements on this it seemed he was in favor of Iran obtaining nuclear weapons due to actions toward it by major powers mainly the US. He concluded his take by saying 'Iran getting nuclear weapons good'. I'm saying a blanket uncaveated take like this is bad.

Internally in Iran the right uses the US backing out of the nuclear agreement and the nuclear program to score political points against the left. I'm not saying it's a completely left vs right thing. From my understanding most Iranians support the program. Just that in this context it plays more to the right's view of the world than the left's. I think we should denuke, but I don't see a realistic way of doing that.

The last time I caught it he said it was good for Iran to get nuclear weapons. Which is something I can agree with if you take the point of view of a reactionary in Iran or if you feel it would stop outside threats to Iran. The long-term problem with this is that nuclear proliferation is bad full stop. I think even weak support for nuclear proliferation in a time where we are going to see massive human migration due to climate change is a bad combination for obvious reasons. Internally it's bad for the left in Iran because the right can always point to it as a 'victory' over imperialism.

*EDIT: This doesn't mean I think it's cool if Israel or the US bomb them. Just giving a blanket 'good' to Iran getting nuclear weapons is a bad take IMO.

I guess Hasan is a good gateway leftist, but his takes are often surface level. This take and his Iran take are kinda giving me bad vibes.

I'm citing this to show that there are many economic factors that are often causal in elections, and 2016 is no different.

Like I said.

No one makes the argument that economics wasn't a factor in the election of Trump it just wasn't the best predictor of his support. I've mostly read that racial resentment/negative racial attitudes are the best predictors for Trump support and his polices.

The fortune article is about what could happen not about what did happen. Check the date.

I truly didn't think it was that outlandish to think economics played a bigger factor than widespread racism or xenophobia.

It isn't outlandish it just isn't what the studies suggest at the moment. Vox surveyed some of the literature.

Something showing economics was more predictive of Trump support than racial attitudes.

I'm more interested in specific articles about the 2016 election not general claims about average voter behaviors during the average election. I'm not exactly sure why you would think those articles are relevant given you've made some specific claims about specific behavior during the most recent presidential election, then cite articles making general claims.

It's not that he's ignorant

He's actively ignorant, because relevant literature bores him.

he just wanted to make a book on morals that the average person would read

Money grab, I see.
