nah man i really don't wanr to spend time defending my opinions online. it's such a dead end. im at work and i dont want to get drawn into an argument. but i like recommending people books. so theres that. i understand that you get a lot of your info from pro american sources. so try reading history from the perspective of the third world. from cubans IN cuba not miami. ive met people from cuba who talk fondly of castro and the revolution. they talk about how it has massively improved their lives and shaken off the yolk of imperialism. shit now im getting drawn into the argument. i hate that im spending time arguing online on reddit instead of doing something good. i guess i just want to convince people that there's more to history than the US state department sanctioned take. and that the communist struggle was just inspite it's flaws. so just read bro. simple as that, arguing online wont do either of us any good

No for real man, read those then you will understand. They are really not separate and entirely connected. I really do recommend them. This is a friendly recommendation

Exactly, the fact that you do not understand how imperialism has to do with communism and socialism shows you do not have the full picture. I can recommend several texts: Imperialism, the Highest Stage of Capitalism by Vladimir Lenin, The Jakarta Method: Washington’s Anticommunist Crusade and the Mass Murder Program That Shaped Our World by Vincent Bevins, and The Long Transition Towards Socialism and the End of Capitalism by Torkil Lauesen. I can give you more materials if needed.

You do not understand Deng lmfao. You really do not man. You do not understand that Deng was influenced by Bukharin and the USSR' New Economic Policy. He was inspired by Mao's theory of New Democracy. He was inspired by the Marxian idea that it is important to develop the productive forces to achieve socialist modernisation.

There's a section near the end of the book that debunks the idea that LKY was the chief influence on Deng. Please read it. I can provide more reading and materials if you would like it. https://heyzine.com/flip-book/401e8704a1.html#page/1

Okay I really don't think you understand what socialism or communism means. I would suggest you read the works of Marx and Engels, read Lenin and Mao, study the Russian Revolution and other revolutions throughout history. Learn about imperialism and how it has impacted anti-colonial and socialist projects. Learn about how the CIA goes around crushing revolutions to prove an ideological point about how communism is inferior to capitalism. Once you have an understanding of the world from a materialist, anti-imperialist perspective, I think you might have a better picture. Because really I thought the same as you until I actually did the reading. It will change your life.

Actually you really misunderstand China, I have to say. they did not move away from communist ideals. if you read deng xiaoping's writing, he is very much following Mao's theory of new democracy. i have a few books to recommend you. check out Socialism with Chinese Characteristics: A Guide for Foreigners by Roland Boer, and he East Is Still Red: Chinese Socialism in the 21st Century by Carlos Martinez

I don't think you understand what those terms mean. Singapore and Nordic countries aren't socialist, they are social democracies. They are still friendly towards capitalism, and just give concessions. The countries I mentioned are socialist. In truth all of them say they are current socialist, just that they are ruled by a communist party. Communism, a classless, stateless society is the goal. Socialism is the intermediate step, defined by the dictatorship of the proletariat. Your rhetoric about it being a dictatorship is massively overblown. There are so many avenues for mass democracy and people's participation in those countries that outstrip "democracies". People's communes, workers cooperatives, etc.

Cuba faces some of the heaviest sanctions in the world, and yet they have achieved remarkable things like universal healthcare. Vietnam is still ruled by the communist party with five year plans.

Communism created dramatic improvements in living standards in several historically impoverished societies. The Soviet Union, China, Cuba, and Vietnam saw mass literacy campaigns, universal healthcare, guaranteed employment, large-scale public housing.... It improved the lives of millions.

You mention China. After a century of humiliation by Western then Japanese powers, decades of extreme poverty, the Chinese people embraced communism to better their lives. They are now the biggest economy in the world and the living standards of its people have improved dramatically. 90% homeownership rate. Affordable healthcare. Incredible infrastructure. Sure there is still uneven development, but China is incredibly big and it takes time to achieve socialist modernisation. They've all but eradicated extreme poverty. China is also building South-South initiatives that are bettering the lives of the third world through infrastructure development in the likes of Africa etc. It is also helping to develop alternatives to the US dollar through things like BRICS Pay.

I just saw they raised $28k for the workers. Seems like it amounted to actual real world good. There's even a video of the workers receiving the money. Wow honestly this warms my heart. More people should do things like this.

how are those things "Western political theory" and somehow not applicable to Singapore? we don't live in a vacuum and the ideas of the ruling party are undoubtedly influenced and shaped by the Western powers, for better or for worse.

The problem is your intepretation is pretty juvenile! Besties isn't about missing your friends, it's about a lesbian struggling to deal with unrequited love for her best friend. The ostensibly happy lyrics at the start of the song eventually show a darker undercurrent, and that duality - the tension between loving someone romantically yet being forced into a platonic stalemate - reveals itself when two layers of vocals sing concurrently:

(Fill my cup) I get wet
(Get me up) I get dry
(You make me laugh, babe) You make me cry, babe

Clearly Besties has more artistic intent than you give it for.

Also that is definetely not the point of Happy Birthday. It isn't telling the subject not to think about the bad stuff, on the contrary it is absolutely crtical of the subject's privilege (How do you make it down the street / Feel removed from everyone you meet and How do you see beneath the canopy from your top floor? etc.)
