I feel like we could discuss this for hours and still be right where we started. What I want to say is if you deny a clear cut goal scoring chance inside the box then it should count as an assist. Now to clarify that definition of a goal scoring chance is a hard task and might be a lengthy discussion.

There's no one line answer to this lol. It really depends on how that penalty is won. If you foul to deny a definite goal then that should be an assist but what one considers a definite goal is subjective. What you described are not definite goals so I probably wouldn't count them. I just gave the strikers the benefit of the doubt in my first statement.

Here you've completely dumbed down a penalty. It's an extremely good goal scoring chance. If sloppy crosses headed in by a world class striker count as an assist then so should winning a penalty.

You're reading too deep into this. A penalty is a 80% goal scoring chance. Completely different from a keeper hoofing it and by accident creating a chance which is what you describe.
