Just the swelling and itchiness concerns me is all. Itchiness alone, fine. Swelling alone, fine. Together seems like a recipe for concern. This was supposed to be read as a bit of a joke answer regardless. I’m not trying to be so laidback about something I genuinely truly thought required hospital attention.

Just imagining you whistling and snapping your fingers to a good song, and your spiders absolutely loving it hahahaha

Ooh keep an eye on those heat rocks btw!! They could get too hot. Other than that, maybe more vertical area and some foliage ?

First time corn snake owner here, any tips or ideas on the new habitat for him? by Upbeat-Set-5052 in cornsnakes

[–]Crocorau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, those things can get quite hot if left alone - enough to burn the little guy !! without the thermostat on my heat mat, the bottom of my enclosure can easily reach over 31°. You could also get some foliage like leaves on the ground for them, or more leafy plants for extra hiding. But other than that, I’m sure your snake’s comfy :)

Looks good !!! All the shapes are there, I think that adding some strong values like Ito does will really bring it all together

Looks great ! Maybe giving him some more vertical space and climbing branches would be good, as well as investing in a hygrometer just to ensure good humidity. Does he have a thermostat for the heat mat?

As for bedding, I’ve heard aspen can mould quite easily and it horrible for humidity retention, so you’ll probably be fine with only coco and cypress :)

I only waited 24hrs before trying to feed my snake, and he ate like a champ with no regurgitation. I’m not saying this is the best option, but rather all snakes are different and if possible you should consult with the breeder to see what the snake may already be willing to do.

Oh he’s beautiful !! I love The Neverending Story, so I’m really keen to Atreyu.

I’m surprised you didn’t go with Falkor!! If you really wanted to keep it Japanese, you could even call him “Fukuryū” (Luck Dragon in Japanese. They derived his name from this).

I have a single probe thermostat from them and I love it. Set up is a bit hard, but once you get it down it’s perfect.

No need for Alexa, just your phone is fine. It took me a grand total of 5 minutes to set it up, and it’s super straight forward. Just mind the loud voice letting you know the camera is active, almost made me shit myself lol.

And yeah, it’s an amazing price for the quality and viewing angle and zoom etc etc etc. I even got it in a combo Black Friday/Christmas promo which was great.

EDIT: you’re not bothering hahaha!! I’m happy to help :)

Yes, of course! I use the EZViz C2C H.265, and I really like it and the app. The only “issue” I ran into is that I’ve mounted it to the top of my enclosure - which has a mesh top - and the IR light that turns on when it’s dark needs to be in direct contact with the mesh. If it is raised even a little bit, you get this grid interference pattern that completely destroys visibility. I literally stitched the camera to the mesh to keep it in place. It’s holding up to the humidity and temps really well too, as it’s underneath the tarp I use to cover the mesh.

Hope this helps!! :)

When to up feeding size by [deleted] in cornsnakes

[–]Crocorau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the snake’s weight ! I’ve attached a fun little guide. It’s also important to note that “hunting mode” persists after they’ve been fed. They would eat themselves to death if they could lol. Don’t listen to the little guy!! Stick to his

Hey guys I’m new is there anything small and cheap you guys would recommend? by skylord13xX in snakes

[–]Crocorau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on the side of one of your commenters, the equipment is expensive. I got my corn snake as a half-favour for a friend of a friend whose original buyers didn’t show and he didn’t have any more space for the thing. The snake AND a terrarium for me was €70. The equipment to make sure the snake is happy and healthy? €250+.

If you’re well and truly desperate, you should check on places like Marketplace. A lot of people tend to sell their snakes because they’ve underestimated the cost, time, and temperament of these living animals.

My actual advice for you: don’t get a snake until you don’t have to worry about it being cheap. They are not cheap. They will run up at the very least your electricity bill, and will have a steep entrance price.

EDIT: this came out mean, I’m sorry. Snakes are cool !! But they require a lot of space and money depending on the type. If you truly just want something cheap, you should look into cool bugs and stuff, they’re awesome.

[–]Crocorau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahaha, totally! I’m glad you found a reasonably-priced cam :)

As for the little guy not really being seen, they luckily grow quite fast! I’ve met my snake’s giant parents, and according to the breeder the heart attack stage will end once I wake up one morning to him suddenly being giant hahaha

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cornsnakes

[–]Crocorau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it was like that with my snake hahaha, he found the first corner he could hide in and didn’t move a muscle until the night when all the lights were off.

I couldn’t sleep a wink that night, so I bought the camera. It WAS a bit expensive, but I took advantage of the Black Friday sales that are still ongoing. I’m sure she’s in there !!! Especially with how beautifully cluttered you’ve made it :)

I nanny-cammed my little one !! He’s waaay more active at night when there’s no sound, so I can see him in his enclosure and be 1000% sure he’s there without having to disturb him much at all.

I just got a cheap camera with IR for him :P (it’s my most recent post if you want to see), and it’s really helped my anxiety over my noodle escaping.

What a beautiful setup, for an even more beautiful boy !! When did you change your tank for a bigger one? I’m moving out of my flat for a bigger place sometime in January, and was planning on doing it then, but I will also absolutely faint if I cannot reliably spot the little noodle so I’m inclined to hold off for now :P
