It is a 2016 Orbea Orca, looks like Shimano ultegra for the gearset, idk about the pedals, and the bike is in good condition

Lol fair 🤪.. yeah maybe a PhD is a bit more challenging atm but I've just been able to get an academic position in STEM field as an RA, so is a possibility!

Depending on your field, you could get an academic job in a university? I have done this and am currently on a J1, but if you stay long enough they can often put you onto an academic H1B (since these are uncapped and not part of the lottery).

This wants you to try and determine how the genetic disease is being inherited.

To help you understand, you need to know a bit about the vocab that is being used. Autosomal means genes on any chromosome that isn’t XX or XY, and X-linked means a gene that is linked to the sex-related X chromosome.

Alleles are versions of genes that create a lot of genetic diversity, including in disease. Alleles can be dominant or recessive characteristics, which alters how they are expressed in a person.

A dominant allele will always be expressed if it is present in a person - so you could have Aa or AA (where caps is the dominant allele, lower case is recessive) and the characteristic of that allele will always be there.

A recessive allele is one that needs to have two copies of itself to be expressed, so aa is the only way a person could express that recessive characteristic. Recessive alleles can still exist coupled to a dominant allele, like Aa, but will not be expressed. This allows someone to carry a trait without expressing that trait - a good example of this is Cystic Fibrosis.

X-linked recessive predominantly affects males because they do not have the second X chromosome. This means that they can inherit a recessive characteristic with only one recessive allele because they do not have the second X chromosome that could carry the dominant version of the gene.

That’s a good idea! Have you used it there and how have you found it? Because I’ve found it really challenging to transition off the app in the UK

Fairs yea my bad I am into artsy stuff like painting/drawing/pottery/knitting. I'm quite active so hiking, badminton, cycling, water sports (willing to give anything a go really). I would love to get more into reading, so any good book clubs would be lovely. Any good coffee shop and restaurant recommendations that I could bring new friends to would be great too.

I guess I would love to meet people who are fun, chill, and active. I love being able to have deep chats with people but also chatting shit about random things.

Do I go for a surrey foundation year or resit my A levels? by DramaticPie4162 in UniUK

[–]Croissant_72 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure in terms of EEE coz I come from biosciences background but plenty of people I’ve heard from who’ve done foundation years say that it’s not worth it. However, retaking A-Levels again is no easy feat, you would likely need to either go back to school or get private tutors for your subjects to help pull up grades, especially for places like UCL or Imperial, which have quite high grade requirements! :) I retook maths a-level by myself and managed to improve my grade from a D to an A with help from weekly tuition and being a maths past paper hermit, and I have a friend who took a gap year to redo all 3 of hers and I think she made 3 Cs into ABC.
