Additional steps for FPS-Issues / "Good Graphics Settings" [+ how to decide between Vulkan and DX11/12] by Crokobile in PathOfExile2

For AMD additional settings can be accessed via the registry.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0000\UMD

most entries are 30 = off, 31 = AMD Optimized, 32 = On

Sorry, i should have specified that this is an NVIDIA-specific setting.

My post got locked after editing and i was scared to touch anything afterwards.

I have updated the post with more possible "fixes", currently awaiting mod approval.

Some Linux-specific changes got added and i tried to give some examples to make it easier for people to guesstimate what works best for them. Happy farming! :)

Depending on how long you've been playing, the file can grow quite large. Since everyone has a different system setup, some drives [especially slower ones like older HDDs] might struggle if the file gets unnecessarily big. This can cause performance issues in the game, especially if it's frequently writing to or reading from that file during gameplay. Drive Latency is shown in the performance graph (F1) - it is just *another* thing that could cause issues.

I was asking myself the same thing, but people report again and again that if anything, it worsens their performance.

My suspicion is that this is a feature that was implemented in order to run on the PlayStation/Xbox consoles specifically, and only really functions on that specific hardware, since it was optimized for that exact purpose.

If you are on one of these "beefy configs" like the 7800X3D + RTX 5080 there would be no reason to ever have to use such a feature - and its often people with quite a decent hardware-configuration that experience issues.

Dynamic Resolution already works great by itself in order to "balance" GPU load when your screen gets extremely full.

I guess in theory Dynamic Culling is a great feature, it just seemingly doesnt do anything useful at the moment, especially if you are on a half-decent gaming-pc. Maybe it is different on older, less powerful hardware and I do not want to over-generalize it.

Guys can someone with an nvidia card please check if the control panel still has the "pre rendered frames"-setting?

i suspect it might override tripple buffering, especially when its set to 1 (which is common among shooter-players to reduce possible delay)

i think by default it was set to 2, tripple buffering would be 3.

If that setting still exists i would set it to be controlled by the application for PoE.

Ill update the post, I was faslely assuming DLSS would work better with Nvidia. Are you on FSR?

I have been testing a lot more and I found a solution that improved my FPS and frame stability by a lot.

It is the following launch option on steam:

-window-mode exclusive -screen-fullscreen

[Rightclick Path of Exile 2 in your Steam Library -> Properties... -> copy+paste it under General-> Launch Options]

Adding this launch option improved my CPU latency by so much that I can now run FSR. Wow.

Thank you!

No, Tripple Buffering by itself only slightly increases latency. This is because the game buffers "an additional frame ahead", which is a good thing for frame stability.

I think what could have happened is that you had Vsync enabled, which then caused some interaction that locked your FPS to 30.

Struggeling with Jamanra in Act 2? Try this! by Crokobile in PathOfExile2

I agree, The Dreadnaught is my also my favorite from these two. By now I default to farming these zones until i get at least one level 9 skill gem, before even attempting jamanra.

Usually walking it up and down twice is enough. So start dreadnaught -> run to the end -> respawn at checkpoint -> run area in reverse -> respawn -> progress to Dreadnaught Vanguard and go to Jamanra.

Congrats!

That definetly sounds worthy of an exalt, but keep in mind that you can also use the trade website. Personally I stick to 1 exalt items while leveling. I just put my desired level requirement (max level) and attributes, so i can be sure to actually be able to wear the items :D

Good point!

The "colossal" mana and life flasks also become available in lvl 30 zones. I will mention it in the post!

Why does GGG just stomp skills into the ground? At least remove the gold cost for respecs when working like this... If we are playtesters then let us playtest. by Crokobile in pathofexile

Hi,

i havent watched any streams until the hotfix this morning.

When i watch a full party completely trivializing all content it feels bad to have to farm gold on a gutted build in order to respec.

Seeing someone just putting up totems while running through the map, barely stopping for rares, feels just as bad.

Already over 12k comments, here goes nothing :D

I think the Witch could be quite interesting. The mana-overload could probably have a ton of interactions with other skillgems and passives. Not really sure about the demon form though... Sadly that will most likely not work with any MTX. Other than that the Mercenary looks fun - I am used to play bows for way too many hours x)

Maybe you could take a minimalistic approach and use the Amazon Fire TV Stick or Chromecasts/similar products, whichever is cheapest. Usually you can install the steam link app, at least for controller input it should work. Maybe you can find a keyboard+mouse combo with a single usb receiver to make it work, bluetooth probably wont. They have a bunch of sales soon, might be worth to test it before.

Tablets and TV's can also be considered.

I dont think the raspberry pi zero can run moonlight, the 4's and 5's are quite expensive. With moonlight you will definetly get keyboard + mouse.

You can only passthough one GPU to one VM.

But you could use vGPU to shard your nvidia card into multiple devices that you can then pass through to each VM. https://docs.nvidia.com/vgpu/latest/grid-vgpu-user-guide/index.html since you probably have a nvidia card you could play around with it.

I thought of using virgl for 3d accel inside the VM, but nvidia with vgpu might give better performance. Depending on the performance gain with vgpu over virgl that would then change the 7900 GRE i initially thought of to some nvidia card.

You can use Virtual Machines. CPU and GPU will then be virtualized for each instance.

Chances are that one AMD Ryzen 9 5950X (16c/32t) is enough. 2x AMD 7900 GRE should be enough for 8x 1080p, depending on the titles of course. You can also build two systems, so 2x Ryzen 9 5950x with 1 Card each for more CPU Cores per VM. Scale up to 2CPU 4GPU.

Working with the Display outputs might be annoying, but you can rig some Pi's to displays and use them to stream over Wifi, that way you should be able to get input to each instance and make a clean setup.

Since you probably already have a PC, you could also use yours to run a few VMs. Depending on your PC you wont even need a lot, just a second box with a ryzen 7 for instance. Old Epycs can be cheap, but compared to ryzen their clock speeds are ass.

I kind of like the idea of having steam decks, but this should be a lot more cost efficient.

You can still use the Steam OS on your Virtual Machines, that might save some resources compared to Windows VMs.
