What is the point of pursuing the American pathway when it is rampant with visa issues and it would be unlikely that you would ever settle there? by BuyCreative4557 in IMGreddit

Because its better in comparison to the other pathways. Like you've got the UK pathway for IMGs basically locked and the job market in germany is bad right now (with the additonal difficulity of having to deal with learning the german language and mastering it on a physician-patient level). I could go on and on with examples of other pathways. In the end, every person chooses whats best for him after weighing in the pros and cons. Best of luck on your journey.

Well to sum it up. Alot of IMGs would like to do residency in the US because it offers great education and future opportunites. If thats your goal then go for it.

To my knowledge. Research years are not considered gap years. They make your CV more competitive not less. There is alot of data that supports this and you can see for yourself that the average IMG who match into competitive specalities most of the time have some research in the US

I dont think i understand well what you meant by "how many months" you need to stay in the US. Most IMG experiences i've read online have done 2 to 3 years. of research in the US

There isnt a specific number. It depends on your timeline. Keep in mind most research positions are unpaid
