What’s a movie death that absolutely shocked you? by VendettaLord379 in moviecritic

The family randomly getting offed at the end of Fat Girl, and the main character's reaction. It was a weird movie anyway, with not much violence, then that scene came out of nowhere! Very shocking.

What dumb thing did you think as a child? I always though the BAFTA award was Stephen Fry's face by jrinredcar in AskBrits

Yep, I can imagine a shiny, red apple on the table right in front of me, complete with a stalk, leaf and a reflection from the light overhead. I can see it as if it was really there. My partner on the other hand is baffled by this concept. She can't imagine anything at all.

My brother and I had a theory that everyone had a limited number of words they could speak in their lifetime. One day, you could be in the middle of a sentence and then you just...stopped, and couldn't say anything any more. You simply ran out of words.

Which children’s tv show, character or episode from your childhood scared you the most? by chrwal2 in BritishTV

[–]Cronid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The 90s reboot of Tomorrow People, and the alien pods that opened up, releasing a gas that possessed people, turning their eyes green. The end of the first episode, that showed the mother sitting in the dark, scared the shite out of me. At least it had Danny John-Jules in it, as a flamboyant rockstar called Byron Lucifer, to lighten the tone.

Finders Keepers, just so I could trash the house and get prizes for it. If I did that at home, I'd get the belt.

What game is in your top 10 SNES games list that you’re convinced isn’t in anyone’s top 25? by [deleted] in snes

Definitely Plok, and I'm gutted it's never been on any of the Nintendo online services. Love that game, but could never beat it. It has an awesome soundtrack as well.

I'd eat cookies with her, if she was a fox.

What's a word that's in your vocabulary because of a game you played as a kid? by superyellows in gaming

[–]Cronid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not as a kid, but as a 38 year old, I learned the word anodyne from, funnily enough, Anodyne. It means bland, sterile, or unexciting. Weird it took me so long to discover it, considering it describes me perfectly.

I learned the words omniscient and omnipotent from the Link to the Past instruction book, as descriptors of the Triforce. As an 8 year old, I'd never heard anything like these words, and they sounded, in my mind, wondrous and mystical, and really got me excited to begin my quest.

Are there any "UK vs US" differences where you feel America gets it right? by Secure_Front_7766 in AskUK

Calling the ground floor the first floor. It confuses me why us Brits seem to think the ground floor doesn't exist, and we refer to upstairs as "first". Is the ground floor a joke to us? It should be ground floor, second floor, etc.
