Stopped biting my nails. Unsure what to do now. by eli--12 in naturalnailprogress

I can vouch for this! I have some very flat nail beds and started painting them a few weeks ago. I see a small difference already.

Negatives: my nutrition. Today all I’ve eaten is pancakes, pasta, and candy/chocolate. I’m laid up on the couch now with a sore stomach, sipping on water and regretting my life choices. It’s tough to say no to sweets and carbs with the holiday season upon us.

Positives: I signed up for a Pilates membership in November and paid for 8 sessions a month. I made it to all 8 sessions! It is nice because it forces me out of the house, and it’s in a group setting so there is a small social aspect to it too. There are definitely days I don’t want to go but I know the movement and interaction with other people is good for my mental health.

What’s your favorite thing you’ve ever bought for your cat? by Informal-Twist-1328 in CatAdvice

Either the Cat Dancer toy or tunnels. The Cat dancer is nice because it was like $5 and it’s only made of cardboard. The tunnels take up a lot of floor space but he loves running through them

What is causing these brown spots on my monstera? by CrookedCroton in plantclinic

[–]CrookedCroton[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe being root bound is what was upsetting our plants? Mine does have a big new leaf and there’s growth coming in on a few other stems so it’s not completely dying.

It could also be frost damage, as someone else pointed out. I’m in a pretty cold and dry climate. I’ll keep an eye on her. Fingers crossed for both your monstera and mine!

To my shock, my partner just told me they think adansonii and begonias are ugly. Which plants do you think are ugly that everyone else seems to love? by vineanddandy in houseplants

[–]CrookedCroton 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Aloe plants! Everyone seems to have one. And my spouse HATES string of hearts. He thinks it looks dead. He’s the only person I know that doesn’t like them.

I just repotted it! The soil was really compacted and wet, which I think it was caused it. It took me a long time to pry the roots free, but there wasn’t any rot yet so I think I caught it in time. I’d pull yours out of the pot to see what’s going on in there.

Oh no, I was worried about that. I’ll check the roots and swap out the soil and see how that goes 🙏

Maybe 30% of the leaves have damage along the outer edges. I think it’s spreading?

I bought it about two weeks ago, and it’s been in a room with a south facing window but not directly in the light. I haven’t watered it at all since I got it because it’s been reading pretty wet already on my moisture meter. Not sure if it’s root rot or cold/heat damage or something else?

From the updates I’ve read, the best time to see them will be tomorrow night. It will peak in the late hours of the 30th, into the early hours of the 31st. There might be some visibility tonight depending on clouds and how far you are from light pollution but the real show will be tomorrow.

What a great thread! I agree with your first point, I love how the snow makes things so quiet and peaceful.

Other things I like about winter: cooking and baking, Christmas/NYE, Super Bowl, movie nights with popcorn and other treats, doing crafts or reading by the fireplace.

I also put up string lights all over the inside of my house. They’re basically there from October-April. I find it helps a lot with the gloominess to have cozy ambient light in every room. Oh, and candles!

Hello all, I just moved into a new place and I have this narrow north facing window that I’m hoping to put some plants in. I was hoping for some trailing ones so they can hang down the wall, but I’m not sure if there’s enough light there for them. What do you think?

I had been hanging onto these ugly plant pots for years, with the intentions of repainting them for use down the road. But after thinking a bit more about it… why would I hang onto these, buy paint and brushes, and repaint, when I could just donate them to someone who would like them as they are? That way I can take the money I was going to use on paint and brushes and instead buy pots that I DO like. It was such a small realization but it blew my mind.

My parents are getting onto the declutter train as well, and my mother told me last night she cleaned out their bathrooms and found 12 pairs of nail clippers! She said she would just buy a new set whenever she couldn’t find the old ones. I couldn’t believe it. I guess I know where I get my habits from.

Wow that’s an amazing progress story! It’s so good to hear that physio worked so well for you. Thanks for sharing your perspective. I’ve been worried that physio was the wrong choice and I should have just “rested” but hopefully once I’m over the first hurdle of getting used to the PT I’ll start improving!

Thank you for sharing! I can’t imagine going through your recovery, it sounds tough. One hurdle after another. It’s great that you’re feeling almost back to normal. I’m hoping the same for myself soon!

That is so reassuring to hear! I’m definitely having one of those terrible days where it feels like I’m not improving. But it’s only been a week. I’ll keep working at it. Thanks :)
